PAUSE FOR THOUGHT
Sam Twiston- Davies in his Saturday Feature in the Racing Post today (page 1o-11) had this to say:
" DUMBFOUNDED at decision to ban Maguire from Festival" .
"NO JUSTICE FOR JASON" .
"One of the best jockeys in the country will not be riding at the Cheltenham Festival the week after next, and I know I'm not the only one who thinks Jason Maguire has been hard done by.
"Jason was given a 14-day ban for not obtaining the best possible placing on a horse at Ludlow last week and his appeal was rejected by the BHA (government) on Thursday, but I'm not sure what more he could have done.
"On watching the Ludlow race again, it's clear Born To Succeed was keen and pulling early on. He did far too much and by the time he got to the straight he was spent. `For Jason to pick up a ban for that seems very harsh especially when it means missing Cheltenham.
"It looks like Jason tried to give him every chance of being involved at the finish as he sat on the coattails of the leaders turning from home, then the horse got tired and weakened out of it.
"He gave his mount a squeeze at the last to get him to jump it but Born To Succeed just popped over it instead, which is what they do when they are tired. From then, Jason has let him come home up the run- in.
"I just don't think it's right to give him a ban for that as he seemed to produce a ride to do the best he could. The horse wasn't good enough to be involved.
"Jason missed Cheltenham last year after getting injured and it's not fair he has to miss the meeting for a second year in these circumstances.
"You also have to remember these horses will hopefully be racing for years and it's important they have a good experience in their early runs and are looked after - especially if they are tired like this horse appeared to be. It's about their careers, not just one race.
"I know Jason will be gutted. Cheltenham is such a special and important meeting for jump jockey's and he'll be really hurting at having to miss it again over something like this.

FEATURE RACE NEWBURY
Sam Twiston-Davies to partner Sound Investment (IRE) 7 11-12 for Paul Nicholls in this handicap chase. 11 challengers. Read what Sam says in your Racing Post today page 11. But it won't be easy to win this £28,475 first prize, all will depend on how this race unfolds in running and how tackling these big Newbury fences pans out to be at racing pace. No word given as to how many big chase fences have to be jumped. Or what type of fences there are. Or how high or wide each fence is. Is there a water jump? If there is what is the height and length of it? At a guess there could be as many as 24 fences in total . No punter needs to place a bet in this race relying on vague hidden government assumptions.
The questions about this race that need bloodhorse literate answers sooner rather than later due to the high danger death and injury factor a handicap chase over 2miles 4furlongs, (half a mile) poses. A two and a half mile chase to be fair to the horses should have no more than ten fences, not twenty or over 20. The very worst and most dangerous of all British bloodhorse illiterate government error. Top weight here, Sound Investment to carry 11-12. Bottom weight Saint Raph to carry 10-3 . Is it fair for British government to ask a horse to jump over 20 fences in a 2m4f chase race? |

CH4 Jockey Coach Mick Fitzgerald introduces us to some of the retired racehorses at Greatwood today.
When you think of Mick Fitzgerald, you might think of his masterful ride on Rough Quest; to win the 1996 Grand National, or his interview with Des Lynam live on BBC afterwards: 'After that, Des, even sex is an anti-climax'. You might think of his victories in the Cheltenham Gold Cup, the Champion Chase, the Triumph Hurdle or the Hennessy Gold Cup because, as one of the most accomplished jump jockeys ever to throw his leg over a saddle, Fitzgerald has just about done it all. In "Better Than Sex", Fitzgerald tells his story with a candidness that is both rare and refreshing. He provides a unique insight into life as a jockey, the struggles, the temptations, the victories, the celebrations. He tells openly of his failed marriage, of riding for the Queen, and about how the racing game has changed irrevocably during the 19 years since he crossed the Irish Sea.

IN PRACTICE AND IN THEORY.
CH4 HORSERACING TEAM
A VITAL RACING RIGHT EQUUS BALANCING ACT IN PRACTICE
Something that British political, legal, racecourse and horseracing government don't bother about.
Key for racegoers' and punters' particularly to pick up on The True Racing Right Equus Zone Rules? Where are they? The licensed trainers and jockey's don't know. So how are they to be expected to compete in a race?
Everyone has an absolute right to know and understand what these true rules are, especially punters.
Just the same as absolutely key for a Racing Right Equus Medication Zone. Where is it? These governments don't even bother to have a true Medication Zone. Instead they use harsh punishments to warn trainers off for years, taking their licences and livelyhood off them libelling and perjuring them names as crooks. British government only interested in the money they can take out of horseracing. No matter if earned by other people.
As Clive Brittain says " You've got to take the animals into consideration, They don't come out of the box every morning in the same frame of mind. "
