REVIEW OF DERBY 4.00

TEAM O'BRIEN (IRE) RULER OF THE WORLD and RYAN MOORE WIN DERBY 7-1
Dawn Approach on jumping from the starting gate was extremely unsettled, the further he went the more frightened and frantic he became. Kevin Manning had a dreadful experience, a tough dreadful and extremely tricky time in the saddle throughout. So what caused all that?  One is left to wonder. So unlike his normal behaviour? A  highly dangerous predicament, that shows the public just how dangerous this sport can be. Showing the world and his wife just how strong a horse can be when frightened into a panic as bad as that, he was firing his head in the air, cocking his jaw in complete terror, the further he went the worse he got. What ever caused all that? Clare talked briefly to Jim Bolger afterwards, who looked grey and completely stunned in deep shock himself understandably. (jmc)

RACING POST DERBY DAY

A SPECIAL DAWN
Brilliant 2,000 Guineas winner Dawn Approach bids to join the greats.

A case of whether Dawn's genes fit ....

TODAY'S BIG TALKING POINT Lee Mottershead on a dazzling Derby that could come down to one crucial issue.

"AT LAST, at long last, the spotlight is back where it should be. For weeks our world has been invaded, our woe made worse through the knowledge that the enemies were within. Yet today's racing is responsible for Britain's biggest day out, a joyful occasion that in its 234th incarnation remains as magical and momentous as ever.

"Through this period of crisis, scandal and shame, the most noble of sports has endured  a spell of unprecedented  craziness. On Epsom's rollercoaster downs we once again celebrate a test of the thoroughbred that is every bit as crazy - but this time for good reasons.

"To stage the greatest Classic over Epsom's ups, downs and scarily steep camber is an act of both madness and genius. Only a handful of horses will truly cope with the unique demands the track imposes, and therein lies the point. When the clock strikes four we will marvel at the best of the best with nothing to distract us. At this appointed hour the 12 three year old colts competing for the 2013 Derby are sprung out of the starting gate, off and running .....

THE WEEKEND CARDS IN TIME ORDER

Dawn holds all the aces
"But Aidan O'Brien's two big contenders, plus Mars, will be out to halt the Approach of the 2000 Guineas hero at Epsom this afternoon Investec Derby preview, p2-3
"French raider Octovango and main home hope Libertarian will be attempting to prevent an Irish clean sweep of the £1m Classic."

A fascinating, brave Derby conundrum if ever there was one, with Team O'Brien challenging with 5 chances, out of the 12 runners.

A POWER PACKED MORNING LINE
