GUEST STAR  GEORGE BAKER  BLOODHORSE LITERATE LICENSED PROFESSIONAL  FLAT RACE JOCKEY, HORSEMAN partners PREMIO LOCO
7 9-1 in the 3.20 Celebration Mile at Goodwood this afternoon.
DAVID BAXTER Reports from Leicester for the Racing Post last Wednesday
"Four George Bakers, there's only four George Bakers ...
"IT WAS  the George Baker show in the 7f handicap as trainer, jockey, horse and part owner, all of the same name, teamed up to win by a short head.
"The four- year- old, initially named by owner Harry Findlay as a joke as he wanted to send it to George Baker (the trainer) has proved a revelation this season. He yesterday won for the fourth time in his last five starts, giving jockey BAKER his first victory on the horse in the process."

PAUSE FOR THOUGHT
RODNEY MASTERS Reports for the Racing Post Thursday August 25th 2011
“TWISTON –DAVIES injury woe on second ride back …..

“IN HIS brief riding career WILLY TWISTON-DAVIES - has experienced the joyous peaks and painful depths of jumping and the teenager’s luck took another downward plunge yesterday when he broke his left ankle at Worcester on only his second ride back from fracturing the same leg.

“The highly regarded 16- year-old conditional –already a winner over Aintree’s Grand National fences was due to undergo surgery last night in Gloucester Hospital following a transfer from Worcester Royal Infirmary.

“The set back came just four days after he made a triumphant return to the racecourse with a runaway win on MAD MOOSE in one of the summer’s most valuable handicap hurdles at Newton Abbott, where he was making his comeback following four months off with a fractured left femur.

“During his absence the son of trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies had swapped his amateur status for a professional conditional licence. His second ride back was yesterday’s mount on BALLYGULLEEN, who unseated him at the second fence in the conditional jockeys’ handicap chase.

“Within a second or two he was clutching his left ankle. The fence was dolled off  and his elder brother Sam, riding their father’s PAPRADON  took an anxious glance across passing the jump were medics were attending to the teenager.

“PAPRADON  went on to win, but the winning jockey’s attention was soon focused on his brother’s fall and after weighing in, he dashed across the course. His father was already there and accompanied Willy in the ambulance to the nearby Royal Infirmary. Sam, after completing a latter ride, went to join them, and Willy later tweeted: “In hospital about to go in to have an operation on my ankle. My fault falling off, not enough schooling , silly mistake on my behalf rushing!”

“After winning at Newton Abbot on Saturday, Willy asked about his ambition for the season, replied; “To stay free of injury and ride lots of winners.”

Yesterday the 2.30 Gimcrack Stakes was run at York, a race for two year old colts an historically famous race, the owner of the winner of this race is required to give a speech at the Gimcrack dinner later on in the year.   Yesterday's WIN: CASPAR NETSCHER 2 8-12
MAC’S concern surrounding this present arrangement need to be addressed, as he attempted to point out this morning. Bloodhorse Illiterate.

JOHN (Greatest Jockey) FRANCOME (Bloodhorse Literate)
A lifetimes experience to date, shared with the greatest professional horsemen and the greatest racehorses.
This morning John spoke up about the recent Racing Post’s News from Aintree racecourse that they are to modify some of the fences used in the Grand National in particular the fences who have a false landing side to them as Beecher’s  Brook and several of the other fences have got.  Plus the distance from the off to the first fence is to be considered and may be changed. John said that he is against this change, and any change. Plus over the phone John spoke to Tony McCoy who also stated that he is against any changes. But are they right in their view or are they wrong?

What do they perceive to be the right sort of improvement needed to prevent the debacle of the running of the 2011 Grand National happening again? It is as well to note that there have been many other recent years when there has been the same shocking carnage at this meeting.

REVIEW YORK THURSDAY AUGUST 18th 2011
2.30 Jaguar Cars Lowther Stakes (Group 2) (Fillies) (class 1) for 2 year old fillies 6f
Winner £61,380

“RICHARD HUGHES echoes the Boss's thoughts "They say that small is beautiful, and BEST TERMS, our pony-sized Queen Mary heroine, earned all the plaudits going when stretching her unbeaten sequence to four in the G2 Lowther Stakes on day two of York's Ebor meeting.

BEST TERMS, who had to shoulder a 3lb penalty for her Royal Ascot success, is lightning out of the stalls, and, trapping like Mick the Miller, she blitzed her rivals with a phenomenal display of early pace, shrugging off the challenge of Irish raider FIRE LILY at the furlong-pole for a comfortable success.

Bookmakers quote BEST TERMS at 12-1 for next year's 1000 Guineas, but, while overjoyed at his fifth victory in this prestigious race, Richard Hannon was taking it one step at a time with the May 19 foal. (May 2009)

He said:"BEST TERMS pinched three lengths out of the gate and never looked like getting caught. We were originally going to run her in the Prix Robert Papin in France, but she suffered a slight over-reach and we had to think again.

"However, she deserves a shot at the glamour gals now, so it will be the G1 Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket (Sept 24) next, and then we can dream all winter.

"Who knows whether she will stay the mile. She is very quick and she will be hard to beat in the Cheveley Park, but we will have to dip our toes in the seven furlong waters next spring, probably in the Fred Darling Stakes at Newbury, and that should give us some idea of whether or not she will have the stamina for the Guineas.

Richard Hughes echoed the boss's thoughts and said:"I knew that she was not just a five-furlong filly, and we only went to Ascot because you always need to stay six to win the Queen Mary. We got away with it there, but this extra distance suited her better and she is so professional and a pleasure to ride. Sure, she is small, but she has actually grown a bit since.”
