SAN
WIN: Altior (IRE)  6 11- 2  partner Noel Fehily Team (Nicky) Henderson for Mrs Patricia Pugh. 2-7. Four ran. An exciting smart performance over these big novice chase fences.
NH: To Date, the Career, Life and Times of Altior a useful bumper performer, Altior (IRE) was a revelation as a novice hurdler last season. He learnt his trade in three races in the Autumn, spread-eagling his field at Chepstow on his hurdling debut before scoring at Ascot and Cheltenham, the latter a Grade 2 contest where he beat the smart ex-Flat racer Maputo, who was bidding for a five-timer. He completed his own four-timer when taking a novices’ hurdle at Kempton’s Christmas meeting, defeating Willie Mullins’ former November Handicap winner Open Eagle by a wide margin.  Given a winter break, he returned to put up an impressive performance in winning the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham Festival, looking every inch a future Champion Hurdle contender. Not seen again, the form was boosted by the third, stablemate Buveur D’Air, who took the equivalent race at Aintree. He was offered at 8-1 for the Champion Hurdle after that and represents a definite threat to Faugheen and the rest this season. Apparently he has been schooled over fences and has the option of going chasing. NICKY HENDERSON.

SAN

WIN: Brain Power (IRE) 5 11.10 partner Sam Twiston-Davies Team Nicky Henderson for Michael Buckley 9-2.
Another smart exciting winner for Team Henderson.

NH:  "Brain Power did well despite still being a big, raw type last season, winning twice and showing good form in defeat behind the smart Charbel and most notably when third in a Grade 1 at Punchestown in May, where he possibly benefited from the application  of first-time cheekpieces. Bred for chasing and certainly built for it, he can go along way over fences. NICKY HENDERSON.

SAN
WIN: Un De Sceaux (FR) 8 bg: 11-7 partner Ruby Walsh for Team Willie Mullins  for E O'Connell 5-4f. 6 ran.
WM: Mullins “This French –bred made a fairly late start last term, and things did not go as planned, as he fell at the penultimate fence when long odds-on and leading in a Grade 1 at Leopardstown Christmas meeting. He put that lapse behind him next time when taking the Grade 1 Clarence House Chase at Ascot from former champion chaser Sire De Grugy, but he then came up against a revived Sprinter Sacre in both the Champion Chase and Sandown’s Celebration Chase. Interestingly he reverted to hurdles in his native France for his final two starts, taking the valuable Grade 2 Prix la Barka in comfortable fashion on the first of those runs. He did not stay when trying 3m plus in the French Champion Hurdle on his final outing, and finished behind three horses he had beaten in his previously run. With Douvan in the yard, it is likely he will be stepped up from 2m this season to avoid clashes, and, having proved that he stays 2m5f, the Ryanair and the Melling Chase present feasible  targets at Cheltenham and Aintree. WILLIE MULLINS.
