THE TOTE BELONGS TO ALL THOSE WHO HAVE WORKED TO ACHIEVE AND HAVE INDEED ACHIEVED BLOODHORSE LITERACY

Dear Sir George

You cannot allow the pending sale of the Tote to go through.

The Tote belongs by right to all the true horsemen over the
centuries who have made horseracing what it is today,
for free, for peanuts.

The Tote belongs to British horseracing and needs now as
a matter of urgency to take up its true role to fully finance
this sport, to ensure that all those who work each day at
the dangerous sharp end to include the horses and their
owners, are properly recognised for the huge part they play
daily, to allow the public to enjoy a day out at the races.

British horseracing has a huge untapped potential still not
recognised. If the Tote is sold to the highest bidder now it
will be a huge smack in the face to all those who have truly
achieved bloodhorse literacy, and a fatal mistake for government.

GUEST STAR  HAYLEY TURNER BLOODHORSE LITERATE

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hayley.JPG
Hayley Turner is a professional jockey based in the United Kingdom. She was born on 3 January 1983.
Turner is widely considered to be the first woman to achieve a sustained, day-in, day-out, successful career as a professional jockey in the UK. Kirsty Milczarek and Cathy Gannon are the two other female jockeys currently riding in the UK, who have come closest to following Turner's achievements. Hayley Turner's success has seen an enormous increase in the number of female apprentice jockeys riding in the UK in the second decade of the 21st century.

She became the first female rider to ride 100 UK Flat race winners during a calendar year (a huge achievement for any rider), when winning on 'Mullitovermaurice' at Wolverhampton on 30 December 2008. 2008 also saw Turner ride in over 900 races in the UK - one of only five riders to achieve the milestone that year.

The 2011 Racing season has so far seen Turner riding winners at a rate which if continued will take her to well over 100 winners at the end of the year. Also, in January Turner had her first race-rides at the Meydan racecourse in Dubai, as part of the annual Dubai Racing Carnival. Turner had previously ridden horses at exercise for the Godolphin operation in Dubai, believed to be the first female to do so.

I don’t actually believe in tips: learned my lesson when I worked at Aintree in the ’90s where, within half an hour I was introduced to three owners, with competing runners in the same race. Each told me to ‘Get on!’ with substantial confidence – none of their horses was in the first three.

PAUSE FOR THOUGHT
Copy email to Sir George Young MP today by J. Margaret Clarke
for and on behalf of Turfcall. Saturday May 28 2011

Dear Sir George
Thank you for your response.
I am well aware that at present the British Horseracing Authority assume themselves to be Bloodhorse Literate   But the sad fact is, that in the main they are nothing of the sort.
The further sad fact of this key fault remains to be that the British Horseracing Authority, The Jockey Club, and all those other dribs and drabs, going back over the last seven
decades in between,  remain nothing more than an empty shell as to understanding the
needs and rights of all those who have achieved true Bloodhorse Literacy. All those who do
actually go out each and every day to work at the dangerous sharp end of British horseracing to include the horses and their owner's.
I am also well aware that you Sir George, along with the vast majority of all the other MP'S are also Bloodhorse Illiterate. No doubt this being the root cause of the shockingly dangerous state that British horseracing has been allowed to sink to. Quantified by the large number of riders and horses sidelined through injury, with many horses loosing their lives on the race tracks whilst competing.

Make no mistake, the government, together with the regulators of horseracing in this country
all are responsible for taking all such bloodhorse literate achievers for granted, choosing to rip such people off big time ongoing over decades.

The Morning Line Guest Star last Saturday was the footballer STEVE McMANAMAN.
There can be no comparison between football and horseracing other than that both draw huge crowds of spectators of all sorts.

There is however in football, a football, not a live bloodhorse to partner and compete with. On the financial front professional football teams are well cared for, in every respect.

So how is it that this is not the case in horseracing? How is it that the bloodhorse illiterate government and regulation authorities take such skills so much for granted choosing to run racing on the cheap?

The Bloodhorse Illiterate Burnham Report advised licensed trainers to employ superstore shelf stackers to come in part time, to ride out and care for thoroughbred racehorses in training to be paid the minimum wage. A damning and highly dangerous report. Who paid for this?
How can licensed trainers be expected to operate safely along the lines of the Burnham Report?
Kind regards Margaret

FOLLOW THE QIPCO BRITISH CHAMPION SERIES IN FIVE CATAGORIES 2011

INTRODUCING THE BRITISH CHAMPION SERIES.

Britain has the greatest Flat racing in the world and the QIPCO British Champions Series will showcase the very best of it – 35 races worth almost £13m at 10 outstanding racecourses, climaxing with QIPCO British Champions day at Ascot on 15 October, the richest race day in British history

QIPCO CHAMPIONSHIP RACES THE FIVE SERIES CATEGORIES ARE:

QIPCO SPRINT
For horseracing’s speed merchants, the QIPCO British Champions Series Sprint category comprises three races over the minimum distance of 5 furlongs (1,000 metres) - the Betfred Temple Stakes (Haydock, 21 May), King’s Stand Stakes (Royal Ascot, 14 June) and Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes (York, 19 August) and four races over 6 furlongs (1,200 metres) – the Golden Jubilee Stakes (Royal Ascot, 18 June), Darley July Cup (Newmarket, 9 July), Betfred Sprint Cup (Haydock, 3 September) and the finale on QIPCO British Champions Day, the QIPCO British Champions Sprint Stakes (Ascot, 15 October).

There’s nothing quite like the sight of a big field of sprinters, bursting out of the starting stalls and thundering over the turf at full pace in the rush for the winning line. Some horses are clearly bred for sprinting, while the pedigree of others may hold out hope for them being able to stretch their stamina to a mile, generally considered a more prestigious distance in thoroughbred racing. If their stamina fails, they can always make a quick return to sprinting.

QIPCO Sprint Races in this category (S)
1. The Betfred Temple Stakes Haydock Park Saturday May 21
   http://www.britishchampionsseries.com/video/2011-races-winners/betfred-temple-    %20stakes-haydock.html
2. The King's Stand Stakes Royal Ascot Tuesday June 14
3. The Golden Jubilee Stakes Royal Ascot Saturday June 18
4. The Darley July Cup Newmarket Saturday July 9
5. The Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes York Friday August 19
6. The Betfred Sprint Cup Haydock Park Saturday September 3
7. The QIPCO British Champions Sprint Stakes Ascot Saturday October 15

QIPCO Mile Races in this catagory (ML)
TOP CLASS MILERS really matter in thoroughbred racing, very much like 1500 metre runners in athletics. It is as three-year-olds that horses’ abilities are really put to the test – the five Classics are exclusively for that age group – and most of Europe’s best three-year-old colts (fillies can also run, but very rarely do) will contest the QIPCO 2000 Guineas over a mile (1,600 metres, Newmarket, 30 April), the race that launches the QIPCO British Champions Series. It was the highest ranked mile race in the world last year.

Older horses have their first QIPCO British Champions Series Mile race in the JLT Lockinge Stakes (Newbury, 14 May) followed by another at Royal Ascot, the Queen Anne Stakes (14 June). That same day at Royal Ascot there’s a second three-year-olds only mile race, the St James’s Palace Stakes (14 June).

The last three races in the Mile category pitch the three-year-olds against their older rivals in the QIPCO Sussex Stakes (Goodwood, 27 July), the Shadwell Joel Stakes (Newmarket, 23 September) and the big mile championship decider, the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes on QIPCO British Champions Day. With prize money dramatically boosted to £1million this year, it will be the richest mile race ever run in Europe.

WITH RACES RANGING IN DISTANCE  from 1¼ (2,000 metres) to 1½ miles (2,400 metres), the QIPCO British Champions Series Middle Distance category is the most important of all, full of hugely valuable, iconic races. Following the Investec Derby (three-year-olds only) and two races for four-year-olds and up, the generations clash in the final four races.

7. The QIPCO Champion Stakes (British Champions Middle Distance)

IN THE QIPCO British Champions Series Long Distance category come the stamina-sapping races for horses that can stay the trip – the stayers. Races range in distance from 1¾ miles (2,800 metres) to the 2½ miles (4,000 metres) of the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot. The Ladbrokes St Leger is the one three-year-old only race that falls in this category.

JON LEES FOScoopR THE RACING POST TALKS TO SIR ERIC PARKER
“NEITHER BID IS GOOD FOR RACING”INSISTS PARKER.

“ FORMER TOTE BOARD MEMBER SIR ERIC PARKER yesterday warned that not having the Totes’s exclusive pool betting license would hurt racing for a long time and said neither Sir Martin Broughon’s bid nor that of Betfred were attractive propositions.

“Parker a Racehorse Owners’ Association, council member, spent many years trying to secure the Tote for racing and believes the sport’s leaders should have publically opposed its sale because without it racing will miss out on potential windfalls from the development of its pools international.

“We should have come out with a clear statement opposing the sale of the ‘Tote at this stage,
he said: “We are the one racing nation that won’t have pool betting, which is just crazy. The Tote was set up in 1928 to provide an alternative to fixed – odds betting but the whole thing is going to finish up in the hands of a bookmaker or a private equity business. Its very disappointing.

“The government got the legislation through parliament enabling them to take ownership of the Tote on the back of giving the Tote to racing, but due to a variety of excuses, including the EC State aid rules that never got actually tested, they are going to flog it off for next to
nothing  “I always felt the tote should either stay where it is for the time being or be owned by racing.

“It’s the pool betting that’s the key. The international business will inevitably grow and if we can have really high – stakes pools with seriously big winnings it could assist racing, which is
in considerable difficulties.“If you have got private equity and investors looking for returns that isn’t the way it’s going to be. It needs to be owned by racing.”

‘Parker, who described himself as a ‘Backwoodsman’, said racing which originally backed the unsuccessful Tote Foundation bid, should fight harder for the Tote.

“Neither of the deals are at all attractive from racing’s viewpoint and racing should come out and say the government is out of order.

“I would come out with all guns blazing and say we should have a judicial review, but there seems to be an acceptance that the government have made their mind’s up to exit irrespective
of the consequences. "I feel it will be a lost opportunity for the whole industry. We’ll be moaning about it for a long time to come if we loose it.

“I know that it is a seven-year license but seven years is a long time .
“While I am a supporter of the government I am certainly dismayed at the approach they are taking to this.”

GOVERNMENT BLOOD MONEY.
MONEY SNATCHED BY GOVERNMENTS off the backs of others skill and expertise. In this case snatched off all those who have achieved BLOODHORSE LITERACY over the last 83 years. This sharp practice has to be stopped, and stopped now for once and for all time.

‘THE TOTE’ belongs by absolute right to all those who have achieved ‘BLOODHORSE LITERACY’, because these are the people the government have been ripping off big time over the last 83 years. It could be said that the Tote has existed and has been bought over the last 83 years since 1928 time after time after time, by horseman who have achieved BLOODHORSE LITERACY.

“Memories of  CULTURE VULTURE are sure to come flooding back should RIMTH  win the
Poule D’Essai Des Pouliches at Longchamp today but, 19 years on , Paul Cole was yesterday emphatic in emphasising differences, not similarities.

“RIMTH is a very different scenario from CULTURE VULTURE, who  went to this race  as a proven top-class miler and had won two Group 1s over this trip at two.

“RIMTH tackles a mile for the first time  today. Her juvenile campaign was restricted to 6f  races.

“I obviously hope she gets a mile; it is possible that seven furlongs is top whack and she does come from a speedy family. I’m very happy with her , though, and her chance is reflected in her price – she’s around 8-1.  I won’t tie CHRISTOPHE down with instructions, as he knows how to ride Longchamp better than me, but she will be dropped in.”

C4 HISTORY IN THE MAKING ‘ THE NEW LIVE MORNING LINE’
HORSERACING TEAM TODAY ARE:

NICK (Lord Snooty) LUCK HOST PRESENTER, BROADCASTER
Bloodhorse Illiterate
http://www.horseracing.uk.net/nick-luck.html

GUEST STAR KEVIN DARLEY BLOODHORSE LITERATE
Former Top Champion Flat Race Jockey of World Renown
Riding for nearly 30 years on the circuit, Kevin had a good start and was Champion Apprentice in 1978 having learnt the trade from the famous Reg Hollinshead (the chief guru of many appretice riders).
Kevin had a great association with the brilliant filly, ATTRACTION. Together, they front-ran there way to a record-making English and Irish 1,000 Guineas. They were also twice defeated by that other great filly, Soviet Song, but that just goes to show the excellence of that particular vintage.

KEVIN, now retired from race riding  is the Chief Executive of the Professional Jockeys' Association (The PJA), the body that represents jockeys within horseracing.
C4 GUEST TEST, KEVIN achieves the top slot on the leader board upsides Frankie Dettori and a few others. Quick and accurate reactions from top riders an interesting fact, possibly due to the way riders need to respond quick when partnering a horse. A finely tuned exercise, that 99 per cent of all people who call themselves riders fail to achieve.

EMMA SPENCER BLOODHORSE LITERATE
MM's ' brings us the info out on the track at Newbury racecourse,  meeting  up with Clerk of the Course Richard Osgood, key info re the going conditions there today

M's also meets up with Richard Hannon Junior out on the Newbury track to discuss the chances pre the Lockinge Stakes to be run at 3.45pm this afternoon, with the Hannon trained colt's CANFORD CLIFF'S and DICK TURPIN both competing to win this race over a mile, a prestigious race of close on one hundred thousand pounds to the winner.

JOHN (Mac) McCRIRICK THE PUNTERS CHAMPION
MAC brings us his "BIG ISSUE" this morning, re the whip and inquires into the purpose and purposes of the whip; a very good point, and a point that needs to be properly addressed and sorted out for once and for all time. The whip can be used  in many different ways, not necessarily in the right way either. A lazy rider can often be seen hitting a horse instead of bothering to use his hands or heels, to show the horse quietly what he want's the horse to do. To hit a tired horse in the closing stages of a race to suit the Bloodhorse Illiterate Stewards and their rules is a shocking and unbelievable practice and totally unaceptible.  Do these stewards really want to ensure that every winner drop dead after passing the winning post? As Mac quite rightly points out you do not hit dogs or cats  or children, no matter what.

THE RACING POST HEADLINES TODAY
THE BIG NAMES KEEP ON COMING
FRANKEL, CHARLTON HOUSE and SO YOU THINK have set the Flat season alight  and today star miler CANFORD CLIFFS reappears in the Lockinge at Newbury live on Channel 4 Previews, pages 2-4.

IN MY OPINION CANFORD CLIFFS is a better horse than DICK TURPIN. Our brilliant Saturday columnist RICHARD HUGHES Page 10.
"I'm riding CANFORD so I think I am going to win."
"Knowing rivals is vital although appearances can be deceptive."

"HUGHESIE'S HOTTIE. We run a lovely two -year- old filly called GLEE at Goodwood on Wednesday  and I think that she will win. She finished second over five furlongs (5f) at Windsor, where she impressed us with the speed she showed. She has come on for her run and the 6f at Goodwood  will be right up her street."

FA CUP FINAL Can Manchester City end 35 years without a trophy in today's Wembley showpiece against Stoke City?

RPSPORT betting special  - back page.

WIN A LUXURY TRIP for four to the Investic Derby. Details page 66.

MAKING A STAND  DETTORI gives up Newbury ride in below - tariff race. Page 2

"FRANKIE DETTORI  yesterday made a stand against declining prize-money levels when he stood himself down from a ride at Newbury because the purse for the race was below the Horsemen's Group's  tarriff.

DETTORI, whose employers Godolphin have committed to contesting only races that meet tarriff, said: "I was approached by the Horseman's Group before the start of the season and I am well in favour of the tariff. Racing has to go forward. We need the money to filter down to the smaller trainers, stable staff and the people who work in racing. If we don't have a scheme like this we risk people going bankrupt or loosing their jobs."

TODAY'S BIG TALKING POINT.  LEE MOTTERSHEAD  sets the scene for an intriguing clash in the Lockinge. (Newbury 3.45)

" Season of rich promise hits new heights with CANFORD'S return ."

"Our cup continues to runneth over. The Flat season is still in its infancy, yet this campaign has already delivered more in two weeks that many others manage in their entirety.

"The freaky FRANKEL produced a performance the like of which few had ever seen, not only Henry Cecil, who has once again enjoyed British Classic success.

PAUSE FOR THOUGHT

RACING POST SATURDAY MAY 7TH 2011

DAVID MILNES REPORTS “Racings three candidates elected in Newmarket.”

“RACHEL HOOD : elected to the district council and the town council.”

“Racing achieved a major breakthrough into the political arena at Newmarket yesterday. (Friday May 6th 2011) when its candidates won seats on both The Forest Heath District and Newmarket Town Council.

“RACHEL HOOD, wife of  trainer John Gosden, was the biggest winner, being elected on both bodies, while trainer John Berry and Jacko Fanshawe, wife of trainer James, won seats on the town council.

“HOOD is well known to councillors on the district council, having spent the last five years on the other side of the fence campaigning on a number of  local issues such as the controversial  Hatchfield Farm  housing development in her capacity as chairperson of the Save Historic Newmarket action group.

“As well as opposing Lord Derby’s housing scheme, HOOD has also campaigned against a Premier Inn hotel as well as influencing the design of a new Majestic Wine store, both in Newmarket town centre.

“It is well over 30 years since racing had a voice on the district council or Newmarket Town Council and HOOD is now hoping to continue the fight from within.

“In a contest for three seats in the Severals ward of Newmarket, HOOD got a healthy share of the vote (655)  and finished runner-up to fellow Conservative Michael Anderson (663).

“This result is about Newmarket, not about me and I’m very grateful to be given the  opportunity to work on behalf of racing  at both district and town council level,” she said.

“It has become apparent over the past few years that racing has become affected by having no representation and our unique town needs to be protected.

“As well as taking her seat at district level, HOOD will be joined by fellow Conservatives and action group members Berry and Fanshawe  on Newmarket Town Council.

“Fanshawe, who was elected for St Mary’s Ward, said: “I’m quite chuffed to beat one of our old foes, Bill Sadler, and poll more than 500 votes.

“We had great feedback  from the voters when we were canvassing around the town and this is great news for Newmarket.”

"ALASTAIR DOWN leads our day one coverage.
"On a day short on Classic clues but reassuringly long on Knavesmire tradition. What we need from the Knivesmire this afternoon is a major performance in the Dante to blow some much needed wind into the sails of the Derby.

Her Majesty's, Cecil's or O'Brien's winning like a top-notch colt will fill the bill but a bunch finish you could cover with a blanket is hardly going to result in Epsom fever. Here's hoping."

YORK ON C4 DAY ONE OF THE DANTE THREE DAY FESTIVAL

THE RACING POST WEDNESDAY MAY 11th 2011 HEADLINES

Treat yourself to the Racing Post over this Dante meeting, you won't be dissapointed, you may even be totally amazed.

"With unrivalled previews and Pricewise leading our tipping team."

"HAYLEY TURNER Britain's most successsful female jockey talks to STEVE DENNIS"

"STABLE TOUR ANDREW BALDING today. Horse by horse guide. One of the Racing Post's fantastic feature's highlighting a selection of licensed trainer's teams at home.

"DON'T DUCK DONALD, STEVE PALMER AND JEREMY CHAPMAN'S Championship advice.

LEE MOTTERSHEAD "On three crucial days at York set to throw up lots of Classic clues.
"Cecil factor lends royal resonance. SIX years have passed since the Knavesmire welcomed, top hats, carriages and communal singing.

"Ascot's historic sojourn to the north has been and gone, but the memories will come flooding back this week when York is once more the scene of bowing, curtsey's, deference and respect. For a very important visitor, this could be a very important week. Not for the first time this Flat season, Henry Cecil, true racing royalty, is set to be the centre of attention.

"Like the Queen, who also has good reason to be interested in York's opening fixture, Cecil makes few public pronouncements but still, manages to retain enormous levels of affection, so much so that the public will be torn between his WORLD DOMINATION and her Majesty's CARLTON HOUSE when the Investic Derby's market leader and next best lock horns in the Totesport Dante Stakes tomorrow

"Add in the highly regarded Ballydoyle candidate SEVILLE-backed into Dante favouritism , with some firms yesterday - and it becomes plainly evident that the Group 2 trial will live up to it's long-held status of being the pre-eminate guide to the Epsom Classic."

C4 LIVE:
1.30 Infinity Tyres Stakes (Handicap) (Class 2) 1m 2f+ Winner £12,952.00. 20 ran

YORK ON C4 DAY TWO DANTE DAY 2011 CAN CARLTON HOUSE WIN THIS FOR THE QUEEN?

RACING POST HEADLINES
"CARLTON HOUSE out to book a cherished royal appointment at Epsom for the Queen.
(Pic) THE QUEEN SMILES DOWN ON SEVILLE and WORLD DOMINATION both stand in his way in a cracking clash sure to determine the Derby favourite." YES,YES, YES ..............
The Queen's CARLTON HOUSE wins, and how. YES YES YES, please invite the Queen to come on the Morning Line. The Queen is Bloodhorse Literate in her own right, to add to the excitement.

"MICK CHANNON Stable Tour."

"UNBEATABLE PRICEWISE Tom Segal fired in a 13-2 winner yesterday. Don't miss today's advice ....

C4 bring us the first four races from York this afternoon live as follows:
