BRITISH HORSERACING AUTHORITY FINE AIDAN O'BRIEN £10,400.00 THREATENING WORSE FOR CARING FOR CAPE BLANCO RESPONSIBLY AFTER HE WON THE DANTE STAKES AT YORK 13.05.2010.

RACING REVIEW COMMENT REPORT BY J MARGARET CLARKE FOR TURFCALL

YORK MAY 13th 2010 the 2.40 DANTE STAKES. Five ran, winners prize money £ 85,155.00

WINNER CAPE BLANCO 3-9-0 partner JOHNNY MURTAGH. handler presenter MARTIN DEEGAN trainer Aidan O’Brien owners D Smith, Mrs J Magnier and M Tabor. Breeder Jack Ronan  and Des Vere Hunt Farms. Distance three and a quarter lengths. 9-2

AIDAN O’BRIEN (IRE): A top professional bloodhorse literate licensed racehorse trainer of the highest calibre, highly respected of world renown, a top proven professional horseman active and successful on the world stage. A horseman that has not achieved this status by mistake or by accident. A highly intelligent man, a caring man, a man who most certainly does understand what the word CARE does actually mean in both PRACTICE and in THEORY. A man who could most probably have reached the top in any career that he chose.

It could be said that O’Brien’s working practices are second to none. That his ‘Points Of View’ are second to none That he has given to the world of horseracing throughout his lifetime to date, huge prestige, achieving world wide trust as a person who’s horses attract immediate respect wherever and whenever they are entered up to run. Yet we now hear that he, this Christmas week, has been fined £10,400 (Ten thousand four hundred pounds) and condemned unjustly by unnamed British Horseracing Authority parties whose flawed ‘Points Of View’ won the day unreasonably and unfairly over an incident that happened on May 13th 2010 in the 2.40 Dante Stakes over seven months ago.

Who are funding the BHA? How has such a simple matter requiring immediate First Aid attention and soothing healing treatment, been allowed to be dragged out over all this time at huge cost in both time and money, and involving so many innocent parties unjustly, including CAPE BLANCO.

The very last thing that one would expect to happen is that these BHA parties would take over seven months to close this issue, culminating in fining O’Brien £10,400 with a suspicious further threat thrown in. What a disgusting way to treat someone who gives so much to racing each and every day of his life.

Clearly these BHA parties have absolutely no idea of the work load  and care applicable to a trainer and his team to get too and fro to racecourses with runners, travelling their horses from home, then competing, and after back home again after racing.

BHA WRONG DECISIONS: The wrong reading of CAPE BLANCO’S injury sustained in winning the Dante. The wrong dictate by top unnamed stewards on duty this day at York.

The unforeseen problems that can and are so often caused by regulation, disciplinary, legal and veterinary personnel acting at the very highest level within the BHA, those who are in fact ‘Bloodhorse Illiterate’ and have absolutely no rights to act professionally in this capacity at all.

THE RACING POST REPORTERS:

HEADLINES RACING POST THURSDAY MAY 13th 2010 TOTESPORT DANTE STAKES:

Preview of today’s big TV clash.

GREHAM DENCH: FORCE to be reckoned with? It’s a Dante that really promises to deliver, boasting four leading Derby candidates including, Sir Michael Stoute’s WORKFORCE second favourite for (The Derby Epsom) and the colt who’s got the whole world of Newmarket abuzz.

“Judgement day for Stoute’s untested star WORKFORCE. HIS reappearance has had to be put back twice this spring, but today we at last have the opportunity to judge for ourselves how much substance there is to the expectation that has propelled maiden winner WORKFORCE to such heady heights in the Investic Derby market. ....”

KEY STAT: Sir Michael Stoute (Workforce) has won the Dante three times in the past ten years from just nine runners for a profit of £12.25 to £1 level stakes.

VIEW FROM THE NEWMARKET GALLOPS REPORT FROM TONY ELVES.

“WORKFORCE’S mere presence today speaks volumes.

“IT WOULD BE EASIER to crack the Enigma code than work out Sir Michael Stoute’s thought patterns, but the fact that WORKFORCE lines up for the Dante says quite enough. .....”

TONY O’HEHIR “O’Brien’s speed machine ‘can be lazy’

“CAPE BLANCO FOUR days after MIDAS TOUCH ended a frustrating week of Classic trials for Ballydoyle by winning the Derrinstown Stud DerbyTrial Stakes at Leopardstown, Aiden O’Brien is on the trial of a fourth Dante victory as CAPE BLANCO bids to retain his unbeaten record in the Group 2 contest ......”

RACING POST FRIDAY MAY 14th 2010 HEADLINES “STRANGLEHOLD ON THE DERBY

GRAHAM DENCH REPORTS: “Dante winner CAPE BLANCO strengthens O’Brien’s iron grip on Epsom Classic – but Murtagh still can’t see further than favourite ST NICHOLAS ABBEY. Big-race report plus angry Aidan in blast at York officials.”

“CAPE BLANCO emerges as leading contender despite post-race soreness worry. AIDAN O’BRIEN’S stranglehold on the Investic Derby was completed yesterday when CAPE BLANCO ran away with the last major trial for the Epsom Classic, the totesport Dante Stakes .....”

JONATHAN MULLIN REPORTS: “O’BRIEN LABELS YORK VETS’ REQUEST ‘INSANE’...

“AIDAN O’BRIEN last night defended his decision not to allow CAPE BLANCO to be trotted in front of the York vets for a second time and labelled their request as “insane”.

“The Irish champion trainer was referred to the BHA for refusing to trot the Dante winner post-race and for non – appearance of his representatives before the York stewards as requested.

“Before the open day this week, CAPE BLANCO caught the back of his heel – he gave it a right belt – and in this race he did the same thing except harder,” said O’Brien. We all saw how sore he was coming back and that he was lame. The vets at York trotted him and everyone could see he was in discomfort. So we got him back down to the yard and got it iced and poulticed, and the lads got him comfortable and ready for home. And what happens next? The vets come down and say they want to see the horse trotting – not for CAPE BLANCO’S benefit, but for theirs. It’s the most insane thing I have ever heard. Why would you want to trot him again on a sore bruised heal and cause him more pain? So the lads called me and I said ‘no’– the horse comes first and under no circumstances was this horse allowed to trot. He tried his heart out for us and it is always our policy to put the horse first. They have seen him walk and they have examined his leg, and they have been happy with both.”

‘O.Brien’s representatives did not appear in front of the stewards as requested and the Ballydoyle trainer explained: ”With all this pantomime the lads were nearly going to miss the flight so they had to leave the course to make it and get CAPE BLANCO home. What were we to do-miss the flight because of it? Everybody knows the uncertainty with the volcanic ash - you have to make the flight when you can, because you can’t be sure about tomorrow. We’re sorry if we caused any controversy for anybody – our policy is: the welfare of the horse always comes first.”

‘O’Brien was referred to the BHA to the BHA under rule 83 which states: “Each person must comply with any instruction given by the stewards of a meeting..”

ALASTAIR DOWN REPORTS: “ABBEY CASTS BIG SHADOW OVER BLANCO’S SUPER SHOW. The Dante winner’s stablemate may still be the one as Flat racing holds out for a hero.. MOST three- and- a –quarter- length winners of the Dante would be hot to touch for Epsom, but like some ghosts of the Derby feast it was ST NICHOLAS ABBEY for who the money came in the aftermath of CAPE BLANCO’S victory yesterday. CAPE BLANCO is now unbeaten in four races but it was not his slight lameness as he was led away that was the main cloud on his horizon.” ” As Johnny Murtagh said:” He’s a tough colt, game and balanced. But if the ST NICHOLAS ABBEY who won the Racing Post turns up at Epsom they will all be playing for places .....”

THE DANTE 2010

Run on Thursday May 13th the 2.40 totesport Dante Stakes (Group 2) (Class 1) run over 1m2f 88y. Winner £85,155. Open to three year olds colts, geldings and fillies.

This race is named after the 1945 Derby winner DANTE, has been run since 1958 and in that time nine winners have gone on to win the Derby.

111- CAPE BLANCO 3-9-0 ch c partner JOHNNY MURTAGH handler presenter MARTIN DEEGAN trainer Aiden O’Brien (IRE) for owners Derrick Smith, Sue Magnier and Michael Tabor breeder Jack Ronan and Des Vere Hunt Farms. 9-2

2nd WORKFORCE 2-1

3rd COORDINATED CUT 4-1

Can these present BHA parties ‘Points of View’ be trusted? Who are these people? What are their qualifications? Are they Bloodhorse Literate? Or are they Bloodhorse Illiterate? Or are they a miss mash of both ? Are their working practices to be trusted? Are their working practices good enough at this level? Or are they making shockingly dangerous decisions and bringing British Horseracing into disrepute themselves, upon the backs of others? Has this CAPE BLANCO issue received true justice, or not?

4.55 the time of last race. (So from 2.40 to 5.05 - over 2 hours later) these authorities decided that they wanted to see CAPE BLANCO TROTTED UP AGAIN. Licensed trainer Aidan O’Brien quite rightly refused to allow this, O’Brien is the licensed trainer he holds his rights to protect CAPE BLANCO, to protect his team, and to protect CAPE BLANCO’S owners from harm..

A Bespoke Racing Channel4 to reach out to all people ....
To provide free of charge viewing available to all people ...
To provide a true racing experience for all people who wish to enjoy...
To take part in, and to learn what racing is all about ...

THAT JOHN (The Greatest Jockey) FRANCOME - AND - JIM (Gentleman Jim) Mc GRATH do act together within the suggested new C4 perspective in the following key areas: Regulation, Disciplinary, Licensing, Career Structures, Pay Structures According to achievements reached, worked for, in all these five named Departments. To get them back on track, to move forward especially on the Bloodhorse Literacy front.

THE ALAN TITCHMARSH SHOW ITV LAST WEEK
Last Thursday MAC was a guest on ITV’S Alan Titchmarsh Show, turned out impeccably by BOOBIE (Macs wife) Super ‘Rabbit Hat’ and all ... spectacular.

JMC for TURFCALL
Wondering what Alan Titchmarsh would have to say about the super cross country fences that the Cheltenham Racecourse are growing on part of their tracks? Also what would Alan have to say regarding racecourse ‘Turf Management’ to include in part, keeping the take off and landing sides of all chase fences and hurdles refreshed and safe?

THE RACING POST TO-DAY. LORD DERBY FEELING THE PAIN
‘Everything all got rather personal and over the top. I do feel pretty raw at the moment'.
.
The perplexities of the lament that Lord Derby is finding himself in over his Hatchfield Farm project. in today’s Racing Post page 8 and 9 Lee Mottershead talks to Lord Derby, public enemy No 1 in Newmarket due to his Hatchfield Farm development plan, but still insisting he is acting in the best interests of the town.

How would Lord Derby get on if he called in to Alan Titchmarsh’s Garden Allotment .... to threaten its very existence in some way? Or called into the Chelsea Flower Show to threaten same? The core issue here is that Alan Titchmarsh’s achievements as a professional gardener are well known and respected world wide. Not so within British Horseracing's Bloodhorse Literate Handler Riders, who are mainly abused, robbed, badly misunderstood,  the only place for them appears to be locked up in the Tower of London by Bloodhorse Illiterate parties. As Bloodhorse Literate Monty Roberts quite rightly asks, "Who is going to apologise to the species, for all these centuries of abuse, of cruelty, of misunderstanding beyond all belief and beyond all reason  .....? Paul Roy? Nick Coward? And all the rest who take huge financial reward out of British Horseracing each and every year, yet are Bloodhorse Illiterate.

How is it that Newmarket is not renowned world wide for representing ‘The Heartbeat of British Horseracing.’ AND the true horsemen and horsewomen throughout the ages who have picked up the baton and run with it for as long as they could over the centuries, against all adversity ...,.and are still needing to do this today? Bloodhorse Illiteracy is the unbalancing problem.

Sam's statistics
Sam Twiston-Davies

At the age of just 16, Sam made an immediate impact in the Hunter Chase arena by taking the Irish Champion Hunter Chase at Punchestown aboard Baby Run, this following a bold bid at the Cheltenham Festival when third aboard the same horse. A proud dad was heard to answer the question of why had Baby Run been taken to Punchestown, with "We needed the money!"

When appointed stable amateur, Sam made steady progress up the ranks over the coming seasons and started to fire in the winners, including taking one race on the flat at Goodwood aboard Soundbyte for John Gallagher in the Bollinger series for Amateur riders.

As stable amateur, Sam signed off in fine style when taking the Cheltenham Foxhunter's aboard Baby Run, to
go two places better than the previous year. It was only a matter of time before going conditional and on 17th April 2010, Sam has his first professional ride aboard Razor Royale to take 4th place in the Scottish National at Ayr. Sam had 18 wins as an Amateur rider, the last fittingly aboard Banjaxed Girl at Cheltenham on Thursday 15th April 2010.

On 10th August 2010, Sam racked up his first treble at Newton Abbot with What A Scientist (12/1), Papradon (100/30) and Caheerloch (10/1). He makes it four in a row scoring on Lodgician (9/2) at Stratford two days later.

Going from strength to strength, Sam looks highly likely to take the conditional's title this season, whilst at the time of writing he lies in 6th position in the overall jockey's championship with 30 winners. (A conditional jump jockey is a young rider learning his trade. )

PAUSE FOR THOUGHT
Nigel Twiston-Davies father of Sam initially combined training as a permit-holder with his farming interests throughout the 1980s, having his first winner with Last Of The Foxes at Hereford in March 1982, before the agricultural recession prompted him to make training his full-time profession.

He took out a full training licence in 1989, recording his first win as a public trainer in December of that year with Babil at Newbury. He has since gone on to register more than 1,200 successes.

Born on May 16 1957, Twiston-Davies rode as an amateur jockey for Fred Winter, Fred Rimell and Kim Bailey riding 17 winners under Rules and gained a further 17 point-to-point victories and served as assistant trainer to Richard Head and Fred Rimell.

A childhood friend and neighbour of Peter Scudamore, he went into partnership with the former champion jump jockey to set up stables at Grange Hill Farm, Naunton, Gloucestershire, although Scudamore is no longer involved in the venture, having teamed up with Denis Caro in 2002 and then his father Michael.

Twiston-Davies adopted and developed the pioneering techniques of Martin Pipe, such as interval training and regular blood tests for his string, enabling him to rapidly raise his profile among the training ranks. He is the only current trainer to have won the Grand National more than once, saddling Earth Summit to victory in 1998 and Bindaree four years later.

The 2001/2002 campaign had been relatively quiet by Twiston Davies' high standards before Bindaree provided him with his second John Smith's Grand National success. Afterwards he revealed that he had been intending to give up training, but depite "having a bigger debt than Argentina" after buying out Scudamore, the Aintree victory made him have a change of heart.

An essentially shy man, he mometarily shocked Des Lynam after Earth Summit's Grand National success in 1998 by telling the BBC presenter in front of millions of viewers "I don't do interviews".

His 1,000th winner came at Stratford in October 2006. (See Statistics page for full details). Twiston-Davies has had 13 successes at the Cheltenham Festival, gaining three victories on the final day of the 2010 festival, with Imperial Commander showing his best form ever to win the totesport Cheltenham Gold Cup, Baby Run capturing the Christie's Foxhunter Chase under 17 year old son Sam and Pigeon Island taking the last race, the Johnny Henderson Grand Annual Challenge Cup Handicap Chase.

This followed a double with Imperial Commander in the Ryanair Chase and Tricky Trickster in the National Hunt Chase in 2009. Other big race successes include the bet365 Gold Cup with Beau , the Hennessey Gold Cup with King's Road, the SCottish National with Captain Dibble (1992), Earth Summit (1994) and Little Bud (2009), and the Welsh Grand National with Earth Summit (1997) and Bindaree (2003).

His best season numerically was the 2007/08 campaign when the stable enjoyed 87 victories. He was the leading trainer at Cheltenham this season before The Festival and his three wins yesterday have just emphasised that position.

TURFCALL COMMENT FOCUS

RACING FOR CHANGE DEBATE

RACING POST TUESDAY DECEMBER 7 th 2010. PAGE 6

COLIN RUSSELL “McGRATH'S NOUS IS NEEDED MORE THAN EVER BEFORE.

RACING FOR CHANGE. Three words which over recent weeks have become among
the most contentious in racing. Acres of newsprint have already been devoted to the two proposed Champions days in 2011. But fear not, this is not another one.

I would, though like to congratulate my former colleague Jim McGrath for voting with his feet and leaving the British Horseracing Authority. He would not be alone in considering that Racing For Change is taking us down the wrong route, and he had the guts to make a high- profile protest. Ironically, with more than 30 years experience in the sport, and with his intimate knowledge of both the Pattern and form books, allied to his marketing skills gained by running the annual charity day at York, he is just the sort of person Racing for Change should have embraced.

Changes in racing are nothing new of course. In my time the sport has altered in a good many ways, but not always for the better. One positive move, illustrated so well in recent days is the transfer of meetings or races when the weather intervenes. Moving last month’s Fighting Fifth from snowbound Newcastle down to Newbury was a triumph for all those involved, but it’s only recently that such a transfer would have been considered. And last weekend, Exeter moved it’s meeting from Friday, when it couldn’t race, to Sunday when after much biting of nails it did take place. In the past, that wouldn’t have been considered, even though it’s been done in Ireland for years .....

HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN introduces the WORLD to the work of professional horseman MONTY ROBERTS in the early 1980’s. Now 30 years on, one would like to believe that the regulation and disciplinary parties employed by the British Horseracing Authority would take the trouble to be mindful of the clear direction that Monty Roberts work worldwide has achieved, and in particular to alienates all types of cruelty to horses. But no, sadly this is not the case as this following report from David Carr for the Racing Post shows......

DAVID CARR FOR THE RACING POST (Wednesday 9th December 2010)

“O’BRIEN agrees to plead guilty after wording change in CAPE BLANCO charge.”

“Trainer admits to acting in manner prejudicial to the conduct of horseracing.’

AIDEN O’BRIEN (Bloodhorse Literate) has pleaded guilty to ‘acting in manner prejudicial to the conduct
of horseracing in Great Britain.” Over the CAPE BLANCO controversy and will discover the penalty imposed by the British Horseracing Authority next week.

"Ireland’s champion trainer admitted (*under British Horseracing Authority Bloodhorse Illiterate Party Pressure) the charge which dates back to the Dante stakes at York in May, as a British Horseracing Authority ( BHA) disciplinary panel hearing, which ended yesterday. (08.12.2010)

"However, it was only after the wording of the charge was amended following discussions between the two parties, removing the suggestion that the trainer had acted in a manner prejudicial to the good reputation of British horseracing, that yesterday’s announcement was made

O’Brien also admitted two charges (under BHA force) of encouraging and/or causing his employee Pat Keating to refuse to comply with two instructions given by the stewards at York - an instruction that CAPE BLANCO (who had already been trotted up) trotted up again before the British Horseracing Authority veterinary officer and the senior racecourse veterinary surgeon , and an instruction to attend a stewards’ inquiry in his refusal to allow the horse to be trotted up.

"Keating admitted to being twice in breach of rule (B) 83 regarding his failure to comply with the above instructions.

"The affair stems from O’Brien’s concerns regarding the fitness of CAPE BLANCO after the colt aggravated an old heel injury when winning the Dante, in which he beat the subsequent Derby and Arc winner WORKFORCE.

“We got him back down to the yard and got it iced and poulticed, and the lads got him comfortable and  ready for home,” O’Brien said at the time. “And what happens next? The vets came down and say they want to see the horse trotting – not for his benefit, but for theirs. It’s the most insane thing I ever heard. Why would you want to trot him again on a bruised heal and cause him more pain?”

"When proceedings were first instituted by the British Horseracing Authority back in June, O’Brien was charged under Rule 30.1, which deals with “acting in a manner prejudicial to the conduct and/or good reputation of racing”.

"Yesterday’s wording from the British Horseracing Authority stated that O’Brien admitted to the charge of ‘acting in a manner prejudicial to the conduct of horseracing in Great Britain”.

The panel is now considering what penalty to impose, and drafting its reasons. It is anticipating that a decision will be announced next week.”

END

*J. MARGARET CLARKE FOR TURFCALL:

Bloodhorse Illiterate cruel British Horseracing Authority Regulation and Disciplinary parties out of touch with reality not fit to regulate horseracing in this country or in any other country. The care and attention that Aiden O’Brien and the professional horseman within his ‘Team’, those at York in May minding and presenting CAPE BLANCO did nothing wrong, but have been punished unjustly through caring for CAPE BLANCO’S injuries sustained in the actual running of the Dante which he won. This colt’s injury needed immediate First Aid treatment action not waffle from bloodhorse illiterate regulation parties. These officials including the Vets should hang their heads in shame.

Horseracing Authority Regulation, Disciplinary and Veterinary parties act in collusion to deliberately mislead the public, to libel and slander skilled professional horsemen’s names, to punish Bloodhorse Literate
achievers unjustly for caring properly for the horses placed  in their care by owners.  END

GRAHAM GREEN FOR THE RACING POST (Monday 6th December 2010)

“Petition for rethink over Champions Day.

THE controversy surrounding the Champion Series proposed by Racing for Change looks set to gather momentum with the launch of an on line petition aimed at encouraging the authorities to rethink, if not scrap, the whole project.

Channel 4 pundit Jim McGrath who resigned as chairman of the British Horseracing Authorities Racing Committee over the issue, has helped set up horseracingdeservesbetter.org, which aims to provide a platform for those within the sport and the wider racing public to register opposition.

http://horseracingdeservesbetter.org/

It is the brainchild of John Livingstone-Learmonth, who in 1994 spearheaded a successful campaign to save the Queen Alexandra Stakes at Royal Ascot, and who shared McGrath’s concerns over the new £3 million British Champions Day at Ascot on October 15 next year.

The website also has the backing of writer Laura Thompson, a well-known commentator on racing politics and contributor to the Racing Post.

Under the RFC plans, the revamping of four weeks’ racing has led to Newmarket loosing Champions day to Ascot and, in its place, hosting Future Champions Day, with the principal juvenile Group 1s-the Middle Park and Dewhurst – on the same card, although that element of the initiative is now subject to re-examination.

Among leading industry figures to have expressed disquiet about the proposed alterations to the racing programme are Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association chairman Kirsten Rausing, former Newmarket racecourse chairman Peter Player, and TBA council member, owner- breeder and Jockey Club member Nigel Elwes.

As Pattern race changes for next year will not be nailed down until the European Pattern meeting in the second week of January, it is hoped support for the online protest will leave decision makers with no option but to reconsider the project. The website will remain up until at least Christmas.

McGrath explained: “John Livingstone-Learmonth, like me, felt there was a strong feeling of disquiet about all this among real racing fans; it needs focusing in a collective manner and, hopefully it will be taken seriously.

“We have to show RFC it’s not just ‘Disgusted from Tunbridge Wells’ that doesn’t like it, so John came up with the idea of an online campaign and a website, and myself, John and Laura Thompson were all keen to get involved, and we have contributed articles to it.

“There are a number of simple questions, each with a choice of two answers, and if anybody wants to take two minutes to take part, I will be delighted.”

McGrath added “There has been lots of chat in the last few days and people are talking about, for example moving the Middle Park Stakes to another Saturday, but to me that’s just like moving a spoonful of a dog’s breakfast to another bowl.

“If you think about it, they’ve entitled the day with the two-year-old races British Future Champions Day, so how can they turn around and say they are going to move one of them?

“The fact is the whole thing is a mess, and just by moving one race they are only moving a bit of the mess somewhere else.”

Owner- breeder Rhydian Morgan-Jones, a former TBA chairman and BHB director, said yesterday: “I believe the two months between the middle of June and the middle of August, from Royal Ascot to York’s Ebor meeting, would be a wonderful period to promote as the best British of racing that can’t be bettered, however much money you throw at anything.

“I’m not a marketing man and don’t know if RFC looked at this idea, but if they did not I would like to know why not?”

PAUSE FOR THOUGHT
THE RACING POST PAGE 8 FRIDAY 3rd DECEMBER 2010 JULIAN MUSCAT meets the former seven- time champion jumps jockey JOHN FRANCOME who talks candidly about his career and the state of racing today.‘I never wanted to be a jockey- it was a means to an end for me.’

John Randall assesses the achievements of a rider who broke the mould. ‘He wins on first ride.' The Sporting Life reported 17-year-old Francome’s first success aboard hurdler MULTIGREY at Worcester in 1970.

“Francome, a Swindon builder’s son, was already attached to Fred Winter’s Lambourn yard and he stayed there for the whole 15 years of his career riding, becoming champion jockey seven times and winning 1,138 races over jumps in Britain – both of which were records at the time.” Francome’s fascinating history unfolds highlighting top professional horsemen from the past, and the wonderful horses that made them the greatest.

Jim McGrath Channel 4 Racing colleague “John has worked for Channel 4 since 1985 and I knew him a bit before then, but in the last 25 years he has become a good friend . Sometimes he is like a big brother, but at other times he reverts to his riding days and he becomes an annoying little nephew . He has got no aura about his achievements – he was a great showjumper as well as a jockey. The thing that marks him as a great person is that he is your friend there is nothing he won’t do for you. He is good fun, but sensible and intelligent as well. I could not speak highly enough of him.”

Francome on Terrestrial television: “Keeping racing on television is vital, but without Sheikh Mohammed the people running racing would have let it disappear. It should be the first thing they set aside when they get their levy money.”

Francome on Racing and bookmakers: “Racing is like a kid on an allowance. Bookmakers hand over £60 million, £100m every year and racing does nothing with it. Why doesn’t racing have its own chain of betting shops? I read that if racing buys the Tote they’d sell off the betting shops, and I think, “Who the hell are these people?” Its scary.”

RACING REVIEW 3.05 HENNESSY GOLD CUP CHASE NEWBURY SATURDAY 27 NOVEMBER 2010

WINNER: DIAMOND HARRY 7-10-00 partner DARYL JACOB handler/rider presenter LEANDA TICKLE trainer Nick Williams for Paul Duffy Diamond Partnership 6/1
Run over 3 miles 2 and a half furlongs with 21 Big Formidable Fences to be jumped.18 ran 10 finished.

Off and Running

DENMAN AND  DIAMOND HARRY LEAD THE FIELD AROUND THE FINAL BEND
THIS IS WHEN DENMAN FELT THE FULL FORCE OF THE ELEVEN STONE TWELVE POUNDS CATCHING UP WITH HIM AND DRAGGING HIM DOWN ....
AS DIAMOND HARRY (rail) CARRYING TEN STONE QUICKENED AWAY TO WIN

DENMAN AND DIAMOND HARRY JUMP UPSIDES CLOSE HOME

THIRD:  DENMAN partner SAM THOMAS
Top weight Denman 10- 11-12 giving nearly 2 stone to every other runner, seems far too much weight to burden a horse with in this day and age.

All this weight caught up with DENMAN in the latter stages of this race weakening him considerably. Brave, brave DENMAN was oh so tired out when he came in.

WINNER: DIAMOND HARRY partner DARYL JOCOB
pulling up victorious.

SECOND: BURTON PORT 6- 10- 1 partner BARRY GERAGHTY trainer Nick Henderson for Trevor Hemmings 15/2

Surely top weight in any 3 mile Steeple Chase with 21 stiff fences to be jumped, should not be more that
10 stone 10lbs.

THE FIGHTING FIFTH HURDLE (Grade 1) (Class 1) over 2 miles and half and furlong. Winner £51,309
WINNER: PEDDLERS CROSS 5-11-07 partner JASON MAGUIRE handler/rider presenter STEVEN FOWLES trainer Donald McCain for Tim Leslie. Breeder  Mrs A Delaney.  9/4  Run over 2m+ with 8 flight of hurdles. 5 ran all finished. SECOND:  STARLUCK. THIRD: BINOCULAR.

PAUSE FOR THOUGHT
THOUGHTS AND SUGGESTIONS RE ORGANISING A CHAMPIONS DAY TO CLOSE THE FLAT RACING SEASON EACH YEAR, AT PRESENT CAUSING ACUTE UNREST AND RIGHTLY SO.

There are quite a number of races run throughout each British Flat Racing Season that are in fact Championship races. To name only two here:
EG: June the British Derby (Championship?) for three year old colts or fillies, run over 1m 4f.
EG: June the British Oaks (Championship?) for three year old fillies run over 1m 4f.

Perhaps the best way forward to keep all these Championship Races in their true perspective, as the racing calendar sets out, and as such are practically possible.

Suggestion: A Flat Racing Championship Day to be held on a non racing day, to be a celebration, an occasion as a thank you day to specifically acknowledge all the key people behind each successful Champion racehorse; to have a parade of same if possible to honour all those involved to include all handler/riders who’s daily work has been paramount in each and every Champions case, outstanding achievement reward.

THROUGHOUT HISTORY THE SCUDAMORES HAVE MADE A MOST GENEROUS CONTRIBUTION TO HORSERACING THAT WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.
The Scudamores’ history and persistence play an incredible roll in Tom Scudamores Grand National career. He has ridden in it nine times but has yet to cross the finishing line first, in fact, placing 8th has been has best performance.

He is the third generation of Scudamores’ to ride in the National with his grandfather Michael who rode Linwell to win the 1957 Gold Cup and Oxo to win the 1959 Grand National, while his father Peter, although the National eluded him, rode a total of 1,677 winners, bettered only by Richard Dunwoody and A P McCoy.

He turned professional when he was 20 and was attached to Martin Pipes stables, but also, through his father maintained close links with the Nigel Twiston-Davies yard. He rode in the National for his second time in 2002, and again was the youngest rider in the race, but again victory was not to be his.

The work, the skill and art that goes into  preparing these horses for the race track
must never be allowed to be forgotten ever. Or taken for granted either, ever.

The Bloodhorse Illiterate Regulation parties have over a considerable period of time attempted to lock many of these highly skilled Bloodhorse Literate parties up, to force them into the OLD BAILEY COURT with the aim to get them locked up in the TOWER OF LONDON and throw away the key.

Colluding amongst themselves to make out that Bloodhorse Literate horsemen are crooks.
There have been many many nasty falls lately occuring in hurdle races and in chases. Is this happening through regulation Bloodhorse Illiterate parties forcing the pace with Jump Jockeys race riding? Telling them, and expecting them to ride to win no matter at what cost to LIFE & LIMB? Ordering them and expecting them to ride hell bent throughout each and every race to the winning post, to order them infact to throw care and caution to the wind ?

On the same day Mr Roy and the BHA put out a statement calling Betfair "disruptive" his private equity business NewSmith Capital was investing up to £50m in the company.

Through the BHA and the Horseracing Betting Levy Board, Mr Roy has been in open conflict with Betfair over its contribution to the levy.

Yesterday he claimed Betfair had disrupted British racing's finances and warned other countries about allowing it to operate in their jurisdictions.
