C4 HISTORY IN THE MAKING ‘ THE NEW LIVE MORNING LINE"
HORSERACING TEAM TODAY ARE:
HOST NICK (Lord Snooty) LUCK in the C4 STUDIO this morning
REVIEW: Nick takes us cantering through the key news hitting the headlines over the past
GUEST STAR: WILLIAM HAGGAS BLOODHORSE LITERATE
William Haggas, son-in-law of Lester Piggott, realised his greatest training achievement when winning the Vodafone Derby with Shaamit in 1996 who quite remarkably was running in his first race as a three-year-old. He spent time with John Winter and Sir Mark Prescott before taking up his own license and training his first winner in 1987. He has trained a number of successful horses including Cheveley Park's Chorist, Superstar Leo, Yeast and High Low.
William has been a trainer for Highclere since 1991 and has trained a number of very successful horses including Brunel, winner of the German 2000 Guineas and the Topkapi Trophy in Istanbul in 2005; Conquest, winner of the Gimcrack Stakes (Group2) and Collection, winner of the Hampton Court (Listed) at the Royal Meeting last year. Collection went on to win the Hong Kong Derby in 2009. In 2010 William guided Approve to multiple Group winning success before the colt was sold for stud duties in Ireland.
HOST: MIKE (Cat) CATTERMOLE OUT AND ABOUT ON THE TRACK AT NEWCASTLE this morning to check out the going and to introduce us to IAN SMITH top right hand man to trainer Michael Bell (Newmarket). IAN is responsible for all runners travelling to the racecourses, to care for their welfare and needs whilst on a racecourse, and to make sure that they travel and get back home safely afterwards. IAN is caring for ACTIVATE this day, due to run in the feature race, the 3.05 John Smith’s Northumberland Plate over two miles, to be partnered by HAYLEY TURNER, a great little rider. There are 18 other competitors to beat. But can HAYLEY win with ACTIVATE? A four year old gelding to carry 9 stone, can she keep ACTIVATE free from any and all interference? Will IAN be travelling home with the winner of £92,475 Ninety two thousand, four hundred and seventy five pounds this evening?
