Blackstairmountain lands historic win in Japan for Mullins
"WILLIE
MULLINS and RUBY WALSH broke fresh ground yesterday when teaming up to land the
Nakayama Grand Jump in Japan with Blackstairmountain 25-1.
"Not
content with regularly scooping the biggest prizes British and Irish racing has
to offer, the pair combined to plunder the second most valuable jumps race in
the world, the Grand Jump over 2m 5f being worth JPY124,000, 000 (£821,000 e961.000 with £465,000/e554,000 to the
winner). Only the £975,000 Grand National is worth more.

"Mullins confirms prep race key to Blackstair
Japanese victory."
" BLACKSTAIRMOUNTAIN did us all proud yesterday by winning
Japan 's
biggest Jumps prize, the Nakayama Grand Jump, rewarding his owners Rich and
Susannah Ricci for taking up the challenge and agreeing to send the horse to Japan
last month to prepare or the race.
"When Blackstairmountain
ran at the same track in his prep race last month it was all new territory for
him, racing out of stalls and from a poor draw.
"Everything was
happening too quickly for him and he was never able to get into contention.
"Yesterday the distance (2m5f) was almost five furlongs
longer and that certainly helped. But the experience gained from that prep run
was invaluable and both the horse and Ruby Walsh learned a lot from it.
"We were hoping for and expecting a much better performance
yesterday and it all worked out brilliantly. When I saw Blackstairmountain on
Friday morning he was a lot sharper and stronger in himself. Emmet (Mullins)
and Diarmuid Keeling did a fantastic job looking after and preparing the horse
over the past month and they deserve huge praise. It cost a lot to send the
horse over, but he more than doubled his career earnings yesterday. The JRA
looked after us very well."
