FEATURE RACE REVIEW
3:40 YORDarley Yorkshire Oaks (British Champions Series) (Group 1) (Fillies & Mares) Cl1 1m4f CH4
WIN: Tapestry (IRE) 3 8-11 partner Ryan Moore Team (Aidan) O'Brien for Mrs J Magnier.Tabor. Smith. Flaxman Stables.

Wow what a race …. Brilliant … Tapestry weaves her way through the field to draw upsides Taghrooda fighting out the finish to the line, leaving the rest of the field seven lengths off the pace, Tapestry’s finishing kick just makes it to foil Taghrooda’s fifth win at 8-1. Two  wonderfully brave fillies.

Richard Hughes had this to say last Saturday in his weekly Racing Post feature:

“We will have plenty running in the DBS sales race and I’ll also be hoping to pick up some nice spares during the week. One of them is set to be Volume, my intended mount in the Darley Yorkshire Oaks on Thursday. She is tough as boots, stays well and is uncomplicated. She has a high cruising speed and can bowl along, although she doesn’t have to make the running if something needs to go faster. There’s no doubt Taghrooda is exceptional but Volume will be keeping her honest. “
Volume in training with Team (Luca) Cumani (GB) in Newmarket a mighty ace trainer of world renown.

Who it is noted is stamping his stock in a distinct way Taghrooda herself a typical example of this, not only in theory but in practice as well, in training with Team (John) Gosden (GB) in Newmarket another mighty ace trainer of world renown. John Gosden talks to Clare Balding this afternoon, saying that: " York racecourse is the toughest lead-up anywhere in the world. "

JMC. To know you need only be a passenger on a horse is one thing, but to state you need only be a passenger on a horse means something else completely. Confused?  You are not alone you have at least 95% of the world’s two legged variety with you, including the British political, legal, racecourse and horseracing government. There are estimated to be only 5% of the two legged variety who have achieved true bloodhorse literacy worldwide, Richard Hughes is one of those 5%.  A situation that we all need to set to rights, and sooner rather than later. Our Queen Elizabeth 11 and her American horseman friend Monty Roberts have worked tirelessly over the last 25 years to attempt to put this right. But the penny has still not dropped for the vast majority worldwide. The British governments being particularly stubborn, rooted, wedged firm in their cruel ancient dark age punishment zone. It is sad to see the present young government front man  'Bloodhorse Illiterate'  David Cameron's vision so harshly favouring the  punishment zone, especially as he has children of his own. Cameron's attitude is galloping out of control in the wrong direction at present. Making the future look particularly bleak.

YORK EBOR MEETING

 Tiggy Wiggy Lowther test

“GIVEN we target our horses so heavily at Royal Ascot and Glorious Goodwood, I’m seldom in a strong position going into York’s Ebor meeting, but this year I have plenty to look forward to-weather  permitting.

“How my four day’s at York pan out looks likely to depend on the ground. Everyone knows that Sole Power ideally wants a fast surface and definitely not soft ground, whereas Tiggy Wiggy was brilliant in testing conditions at Sandown and almost certainly not as effective on a quick track at Royal Ascot.

“Given the choice I’d choose good ground for the Knavesmire, as that would suit both of them and also Beacon, who we are looking forward to running in the Gimcrack Stakes next Saturday. More on him next week.

“I cannot wait to ride Tiggy Wiggy in Thursday’s Pincent Masons Lowther Stakes and report she looks absolutely great at home.
2:30 Pinsent Masons Lowther Stakes (Group 2) (Fillies) Cl1 6f CH4 10 run

WIN: Tiggy Wiggy (IRE) 2 9-0 partner Richard Hughes Team (Richard) Hannon for Potensis Ltd.
Yes, yes, yes Tiggy Wiggy she pins her ears right back as if she knows she can and will win this.

“I’ve never known a two- year- old go such a fast pace and then quicken off it as she did in the Weatherbys Super Sprint. That was over 5 furlongs, but York’s six furlongs is an easy six so the distance should not be a problem. In terms of tactics I’ll hold her mane as she jumps out and let her run.

“There is every reason to be excited because there is no doubt she is as good as she looked at Newbury. Sometimes a horse produces what appears to be a tremendous effort but you start to question the form if the timing wasn’t great. At Newbury our filly looked magnificent and her victory was also supported by the clock. It would make for a fascinating race if we get to reoppose the Queen Mary winner Anthem Alexander and if we do I’ll be reopposing with confidence.

“Anthem Alexander’s trainer Eddie Lynam made the brave decision not to run Sole Power in the July Cup, but it was the right decision. It means Friday’s Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes will be his first start since the King’s Stand Stakes, in which he really had the wow factor.

“The stunning aspect of his performance that day was a combination of his turn of foot and the horses in front of him stopping. That latter factor definitely has to be taken on board because at York on Friday the pace is going to hold better. Producing the same sort of display will be harder on such a flat track. At Ascot you have more room, while because of the hill you know that the horses in front are going to come back to you.

“At York the speed horses will last that bit longer, which means the gaps will stay closed and holes are less likely to appear. On the plus side, I’m delighted Take Cover is due to run as he is very fast and for that reason I’d love to be drawn near him.

“I can only ride Sole Power the one way- which is the same way as in the King Stand- but we’ll need the horses in front to take me into the race and then I’m going to need to find space. In short. I’m going to need luck.
