PAUSE FOR THOUGHT

TANYA this morning asks viewers to email in giving their opinions on the unfortunate incident that happened at Bangor last Wednesday (10.11.2010) in the 3.40 Castle Construction Bangor Conditional Jockeys'
Handicap Hurdle Class 4 over 2m1f. 8 ran. In regard to the running and riding of JEANRY partnered by C.D TIMMONS (3) for owner trainer A J Whitehead. (caught out on the line and placed second.)

CHRIS TIMMONS (3) in what appeared to look to be throwing away certain victory, being caught from behind by the stalking tactics, creeping quietly ever closer MONSIEUR partner MATT GRIFFITHS (3) this stealth won him this race. TIMMONS said: “I hold my hands up, it was completely my fault and JEANRY should have won. I thought I was clear.”
(A conditional jump jockey is a rider with the L plates up. (a learner jockey)

Taking jockeys' for granted .... there is nothing easy in learning to ride properly at this level,
80 per cent of all the people who try it, never succeed. There is nothing easy in riding in a race, any race. It could be said that you never stop learning about horses, and race riding.

Every now and again issues as this one occur, no jockey has eyes in the back of his head for starters. The old message given to jockeys especially the young and inexperienced ones, 'Never Look Round'.

CHRIS TIMMONS will be feeling shattered by the unpleasant predicament that he now finds himself in. But no one died, no horses died, no horses were badly injured, and TIMMONS and JEANRY live to fight again another day. A lesson learned the hard way along a severe path of life the dictate of a ‘Bloodhorse Illiterate British horseracing authority who dished him out as punishment, a 28 day ban.

Punters need to be aware, cautious of riders with the L plates up.

The question now that the (BHA) British Horseracing Authority Regulation and Disciplinary parties need to answer is: “Are they acting in a fair and reasonable way toward a conditional rider over an incident as this?” This was not all due to Timmons awareness consentration error, the tactical and careful excellence of MATT GRIFFITHS (3) partnering MONSIEUR , who in biding his time succeeded to win this race .....
A bit like the tale of the hare and the tortoise.

Should any conditional, or apprentice rider be treated with such SCORN AND CONTEMPT by BHA regulation parties who are ‘Bloodhorse Illiterate’? The answer has to be NO.

Punters  need to be cautious in placing such bets, in races as these. Sometimes best to leave your money on the mantlepiece, for another day.
