THE RACING POST WEEK MONDAY SEPTEMBER 26th to SUNDAY OCTOBER 2nd 2011
TODAY'S ACTION
“When Fontwell’s Racecourse executive scheduled its meeting for today they can be excused for not having taken into consideration a revenue threatening crowd- puller elsewhere, the
seaside playground that is Bognor Regis. In parts of Britain and Wales, the heat will be the solitary talking point. Will it be the hottest October day on record?“In Ireland, conditions are expected to be nearer the norm with heavy rain prompting a 7.30am inspection at Gowran Park and a temperature of no high than 16C, appropriate jumping weather for Champion Chase winner SIZING EUROPE to return in the Pricewaterhousecoopers Champion Chase, in which he meets RUBY LIGHT, third to ALBERTA’S RUN in the Ryanair.

“Sea Breeze in Paris?
“IN PARIS today the temperature is forecast to peak at 29C by tomorrow. As a precursor to the Arc, Longchamp features a clutch of Group 2 races and it will be interesting to monitor times and ground reports from the likes of Frankie Dettori, Pat Smullen and David Probert.“One runner sure to appreciate fast ground today is Roger Chalton’s consistent filly SEA OF HEARTBREAK, who has three to beat in the Qatar Prix de Royallieu. Although she has yet to compete at this level , SEA OF HEARTBREAK has won five of her 13 starts and is an ideal vehicle for a bet in running as she tends to hit a flat spot mid-race before picking up and showing a determined attitude.
“Title – deciders
“ANY of three juvenile races today might prove a kingmaker for Richard Hannon, as William Hill astutely cued yesterday when easing both Sir Henry Cecil and Aidan O’Brien for the trainers’ championship. Cecil is 100-30 (from 3) and O’Brien 5-1 (from 9-2).“Hannon is represented in the three jackpot sales races, two at Newmarket, one at Redcar. Prize-money for the winners tots up to more than £550,000. Hannon has seven runners, Cecil and O’Brien have none.
ARCTIC big Ascot draw
“AT ASCOT, much attention will revolve around whether ARCTIC COSMOS, who required surgery for a cannonbone injury, can reproduce a similar level of form as to when we last saw him in public winning the 2010 St Leger at 12-1, in which he gave WILLIAM BUICK his first Classic. John Gosden has pinpointed an ideal relaunch site in the Group 3 Grosvenor Casinos Cumberland Lodge Stakes, which looks markedly weaker than normal.
“The fact ARCTIC COSMOS is fitted with blinkers- he wore them for the first time in the Leger-may indicate Gosden means business with a horse part owned by his wife Rachel Hood.
“Preparation for this comeback included a pleasing workout at Newbury along side stable companion NATHANIEL, the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner. ARCTIC COSMOS’S injury came a month after the Doncaster triumph, in the build- up to an intended attempt on the Canadian International. BUICK again rides.” END

I don’t actually believe in tips: learned my lesson when I worked at Aintree in the ’90s where, within half an hour I was introduced to three owners, with competing runners in the same race. Each told me to ‘Get on!’ with substantial confidence – none of their horses was in the first three.
