PAUSE FOR THOUGHT

Equus Zone

Have you been watching to see how Frankie is getting on since he entered
the Celebrity Big Brother house?
(Thursday evening January 3rd 2013)

Did you read the Racing Post last Sunday? If not a few update notes for you.
Graham Green brings us news

“Frankie not in CBB to rebuild reputation”

“FRANKIE DETTORI entered the Celebrity Big Brother house this week with the blessing of his wife, who says the three-time champion jockey was motivated by the sense of adventure and not, as has been suggested in some quarters, an opportunity to rehabilitate his reputation in the eyes of the general public.

“Many within racing believe Dettori has taken the biggest gamble of his career, but those fears are not shared by mother- of- five Catherine Dettori, who has been glued to the coverage since Channel 5’s reality show launched on Thursday night and for which her husband is generally second favourite in the betting behind X Factor star Rylan Clark.

“Catherine, speaking at the couple’s Newmarket home yesterday, revealed Dettori was approached by the producers in early November, before his six-month worldwide suspension for testing positive for a prohibited substance at Longchamp on September 16 was announced by France Galop.

“She said: ‘It was something different. He wasn’t racing and he had been asked to do it and we thought  ‘why not’ . I think you get to a certain stage in your life and you want to do and try everything.

“He’s not a sit around and do nothing sort of person. Obviously he’s earning money as well – the school fees keep coming.

“His reputation is intact, he openly and genuinely apologised for his mistake, and he just loves life and wants to have fun. ”

“Dettori, who was the face of the 2008 Derby admits to warning her husband to behave himself before he left for what could be a three-week stay in the house if he survives to the end.

“I was a bit nervous for him going into the house, but he wasn’t,” she said “I’d be so
self-conscious I suppose, but he is so much better at all that. I told him not to upset anybody, don’t argue with people and don’t be a control-freak. He has done very well so far.”
"Dettori, who is reportedly donating part of his fee to Sir Peter O’Sullevan’s Charitable Trust and Barney Curley’s charity, Direct Aid for Africa, only returned to Britain on Tuesday after an extended family holiday that included Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

“Catherine recalled: ‘I don’t know whether he has been approached to be on Big Brother before, but he was asked a couple of times about going to the Jungle (I’m A Celebrity –Get-Me-Out-Of-Here) but he could never commit that time and he was also slightly wary because he hates snakes. I don’t think he thought he would do that well at that.”

“She added that the children are thrilled to be watching their dad on TV in a setting outside his normal working environment.

“They are not really interested in racing at the moment, but they are really excited about ‘Big Brother,’ she said adding: “I am missing him already and, although I want him home, it will be nice if he can stay until near the end – it would be amazing. One thing is for sure and that’s our telephone will be busy when it comes to voting for him.”

J Margaret Clarke Turfcall Comment

FRANKIE has dazzled us and the horses with his incredible riding skills for over twenty
years. His contribution to horseracing around the world is massive, a truly great pioneer of the Turf. As Elvis Presley said “You don’t judge an ocean by one wave.”
