ONE OF THE HIGHLIGHTS IN 2013
Was our Queen's ESTIMATE partner RYAN MOORE trainer TEAM (Sir Michael) STOUTE (Newmarket)

 Winning the 2013  running of the Ascot Gold Cup at Royal Ascot in June.

Just how fantastic was that.  And in doing so,  showed just how difficult it is for an owner to win such a race as this. Way back in 1957 the royal challenger was ATLAS partner Harry Carr stable jockey for Cecil Boyd Rochfort. But Atlas was beaten by Zarathustra also trained by Cecil Boyd Rochfort.

Ascot Gold Cup (1957)

Zarathustra was bred by Sir Harold Gray at Graymount in Antrim, Northern Ireland in 1951. When Gray died later the same year, the ownership of his horses, including the black foal who would become known as Zarathustra passed to his son, the writer and philosopher Terence Gray (Wei Wu Wei). Gray declined several offers to buy the colt and sent him to be trained in Ireland by Michael Hurley.


Zarathustra was given a best end of year Timeform rating of 131 in 1956, when he was the third highest rated horse trained in Britain.[5]

The stable jockey, Harry Carr preferred to ride the Queen's runner Atlas , ... for trainer Cecil Boyd- Rochford who also trained  Zarathustre partner Lester Piggott

 Irish St Leger before travelling over from Ireland to Freemason Lodge Newmarket to Team Boyd Rochford. Together with his handler rider Eugene (Nobby) Clarke.

THREE RUNNERS AT ASCOT

We have three runners heading to Ascot over the next couple of days, two of which run there today; Bellenos goes in the novice handicap hurdle at 1.30 and he is followed by Herons Heir who is making his debut in the bumper at 3.40.
Willows Saviour is returning to Ascot on Saturday after winning there in November, which preceded him winning at Musselburgh just six days later. He runs in the Ladbroke Handicap Hurdle at 3.35 - So fingers firmly crossed!
