MUSINGS FROM A RETIRED RACING ENTHUSIAST

"Legend of O'Toole looks set for an extended run" .

Pic: " Peter O'Toole: pictured playing TE Lawrence in Lawrence of Arabia

" THERE'S Santa Claus, and a lot of Christmas hats, and mince pies, and Elvis  singing It'll Be Lonely This Christmas. What more could anyone at Uttoxeter want? Prince Freddie winning the first would be nice.

"Trainer Roy Brotherton, grey haired, hands thrust into jacket pockets, says: "He's got a decent chance. He keeps finding one to beat him. Lets hope he doesn't bump into one today. " Sadly, Prince Freddie finds four to beat him an d finishes fifth to Kozmina Bay.

"It's not the start I'd hoped for but, to look on the bright side (I hope I don't have too much looking on the bright side), I've repeated yesterday's trick with the Placepot, and  forgotten to put it on. It's sitting in my pocket, filled out but inactivated. I've lost £110 on Prince Freddie but saved myself £96 by forgetting the Placepot.

"Still, that's the past, I must focus on the future, in the shape of a maiden hurdle. There are medium-size blobs next to Allow Dallow, Corgy and Wthe, inuff and a token blob beside Grape Tree Flame. Jonjo O''Neill, who trains Allow Dallow for the intriguingly named Regulatory Finance Solutions Limited, expresses the belief  his candidate has a good chance and has probably improved  since his last run, but wonders if he'll stay the trip on today's testing going.  We're about to find out.

"The prices on the main contenders don't appeal , so I have a small bet on Grape Tree Flame, at more than 50-1. Allow Dallow stays well enough to battle out the finish with Wuff,  but is just outstayed. Grape Tree Flame runs pretty well but, uncompromising world of Grab-a-Granding, pretty well  isn't good enough.

"Racing For Change gets a lot of stick but surely no-one can complain about its latest campaign to widen the range of horses' colours. Bay, brown and chestnut are all very well but the sight of Russe Blanc, officially white, is heartening. We can look forward to many more white horses in future.

"A splendid group of twitterati, led by the enthusiastic Dave Massey, push £60 into my hand, which I take to bookmaker Paul Johnson, who generously translates it into £100 on Russe Blanc, at 3-1. It's easy to pick out Russe Blanc, which is a pity, because it means we can see him dropping back before staying on again to finish third. Fortunately, my bet on Hollins at the enhanced odds of 8-1 offered by Corbettsports comes good.

"Everyone's trying to help. The trouble is, you just can't help some people and J promptly lose £100 on Hot Stock at Southwell. When I was there on Tuesday, Hot Stock was narrowly beaten over 6f and on paper had an excellent chance of winning over 7f. Unfortunately, they weren't racing on paper.

"Oh dear. It's not enhanced odds I need, it's enhanced horses. I'd better cheer myself up by asking Richard Phillips if the medium blob I've put next to Motou's name in the 3m hurdle is justified. Motou has run well but hung in his recent races and, when I ask Phillips the reason (for hanging, not running well), he replies: "The jockey's only got one hand. It's not his faulty.  "More encouragingly, he adds: "He'll get the trip, he's in good nick and, on form, he'll be in the first three. "

"HAVE you heard that expression, least said soonest mended? It's a cracking expression, and I commend it to you. I certainly intend to adopt it. I will therefore not pass comment on the race involving Motou, which was also the race involving Robin Will and I Know The Code, both of whom I also backed. I may not pass comment on subsequent races, either, unless I deem their outcome worthy of attention.

"I don't know why everyone here - and there are a lot of them - seem so jolly. I know Scrooge wasn't perfect but I'm beginning to warm to him. It's tempting to walk round with a sandwich board reading 'Stop Smiling You'll All Be Dead In 100 Years' .

"A punter of my acquaintance, and rather more successful than me, then generously gives me £300, wisely indicating this is not to bet with, but to give to the causes benefiting from my week's activities.

"Really, I could do with some advice from Regulatory Finance Solutions Limited. The thing is, I'm now only £315.61 ahead and,  much as I'd like to grab that grand, I'd also like to end up with a plus rather a minus figure.

"In the 3m chase I like Kilcascan, seemingly well handicapped and consistent. Rosemary Gasson, a lovely lady, says frankly  "He tries his best and jumps well but doesn't have finishing speed. " I've already backed him, at 10-1. He does try his best.

"It's been good fun, and thank you to everyone who has tried to help. The week's modest profit will be shared between Racing Welfare and Prostate Cancer UK. "

Second World War code-breaker Alan Turing
Has been given a posthumous royal pardon for a 61-year-old conviction for homosexual

PUNISHMENT TO FIT THE CRIME
WHERE DOES PUNISHMENT AS THIS FIT IN THE GENERAL ORDER OF THINGS IN GENERAL BOTH IN THEORY AND IN PRACTICE

IT WOULD BE interesting to get Christopher Soumillon's input here
(British Champion's Day  Ascot-15.10.11)

Jockey Soumillon docked £50,000 Ascot prize in whip row
By Frank Keogh at Ascot BBC Sport

Belgian jockey Christophe Soumillon has lost about £50,000 in prize money and been given a five-day ban for flouting the new whip rules.

He was punished after he struck his mount six times in the final furlong as he won the £1.3m Champion Stakes on Cirrus Des Aigles at Champions Day .

BRITISH POLITICAL,  HORSERACING, AND LEGAL GOVERNMENT

HORRIFIC DARK AGE PUNISHMENT'S
Still the order of the day in 2013
 Defies all belief

Whip Review Consultants

2011

Mr Tim Morris (GB) and  Mr Jamie Stier (AUS)

A British political and horseracing government fiasco in attempting to review the use of the Whip.  With an update to be placed within the Rules of British Horseracing.  At what cost we are not told, nothing new there then.

It is estimated that this government review took  these two men over a year to  carry out.  Neither could ride, neither knew how to hold a whip , leave alone use a whip on an owners thoroughbred racehorse in training.  As neither did either know the reason or the  purpose in which to use of a whip coming   into play in the first place. ( when and if)

These false government  bloodhorse illiterate Whip Rules were placed within the British  political and horseracing government's Rules of British Horseracing at the beginning of October 2011, only weeks before the first Qipco British Champions Day at Ascot took place.

These barbaric rules and practices have been left in place ever since. There are no  true  bloodhorse literate Global Rules of Horseracing.  Christophe Soumillon (FR) was the first top professional horseman to feel the evil wrath of  British governments on Saturday October 15th 2011 the very first Qipco British Champions Day at Ascot our own Queen's racecourse.  Christophe was punished to the tune of £50,000 (Fifty Thousand Pounds) for using his whip 6 times in the closing stages of race to win.

A timely reminder comes in a quote from Clive Brittain in his book:  The Smiling Pioneer. With Robin Oakley. (My Christmas Book)
"As the third lot reaches the Al Bahathri training track there is hesitation up at the front of the bunch. We take away the lead horse and find a natural leader among the two-year-olds. ' Those riding two-year-olds at exercise are not allowed to carry sticks.  I don't want them given a crack for not knowing what you want.  We are starting to get the two-year-olds to canter upsides. See that one with the white socks:  she's ready to go a stride faster but she needs to be able to settle upsides another. I don't want them ready for March. I want them ready for when they are ready.
