Countdown to Epsom Oaks and Derby weekend
Saturday and Sunday June 6th and 7th

"Ihtimal  is Bet365's 7-1 joint second favourite for the Oaks with Tarfasha, the market headed by Taghrooda at a general 7-4. Fallon said: "Ihtimal is a beautiful filly with a great pedigree. I think the ground was a bit firm for her at Newmarket. I have ridden her work a few times in Dubai, She was very impressive in the Oaks in Dubai-the further she went, the further she went away. She will stay and it could be a great weekend. "

He added "I like Epsom. It's a place where there is a buzz and it helps you ride with confidence and when you are riding good horses you have to have that confidence.

"True Story, a seven- length winner of the Feilden Sakes  under De Sousa, finished third behind The Great Gatsby in the Dante Stakes on his first start under Fallon, but both trainer and jockey are convinced he will be better in the Derby.

"He came back sound,  said Bin Suroor.  "He jogged in the morning and cantered yesterday and today. He looks happy so we will take him straight to the Derby.

"Good ground will be better, and a mile and a half will be no problem. Kieren said he wants a mile and a half and Epsom will suit.

"He was a little bit disappointing at York. Before the race  I thought he was going to win, but he's still a nice horse for the future. "

"Bin Suroor still has Wood Ditton winner Basem , the brother of Farhh, engaged  at Epsom and he is due to have his second start in a condition race at Beverley on Saturday under De Sousa.

"We'll see how he runs and then we could think about the Derby. " the trainer added. "However, it's more likely we will just take True Story. "

Can Kieren win the Oaks partnering Ihtimal (Sat) and the Derby partnering True Story (Sun) double at Epsom a fortnight to day? What do you think?

C4 Nick Luck takes us to Kingsclere

To meet up with Andrew Balding at home training his horses'

If the British political, legal and horseracing government were run like this historic stable yard this country and all the people and creatures attempting to live in it wouldn't be in the shocking state they find themselves in today.

KINGSCLERE

The working environment needed to train racehorses.

Of using downland turf gallops that have been minded, cared for, and used  over the last one hundred and fifty years.

Ch4 Nick Luck introduces us to Andrew Balding at home training his owners horses high up on the downland turf gallops to the south of Kingsclere.

Right at the top of a very steep hill road that winds its way towards Whitchurch Overton, Aylesford and Goodwood. At the top of that road due west off the beaten

track  lies Cannon Heath  and Andrew's downland turf gallops stretch out before you in a rich green panorama with an amazing view of the countryside all around. Andrew told us that these turf gallops have been minded and cared for by several different trainers who have trained from Kingsclere over the last one hundred and fifty years going back to the life and times of John Porter, who founded the Newbury racecourse.

Priceless Turf  Gallops
Many truly great racehorses and truly great horsemen have used these gallops on their way to Classic and Global success of the highest order both in Britain and on racecourses around the world.

Andrew has his binoculars up to spot his horses galloping, working along in two's upsides each other, he is careful to point out to Nick that the horses are not there to race each other to see who is the fastest: but galloping within themselves to improve their fitness. Andrew points out the two Derby colts Scotland and Impulsive Moment working along.  Anne Lisa, Andrew wife is riding out herself  minding a considerable number of racehorses in training up there to work this lot estimated to be over twenty racehorses.

Back at Park House Stables we see two runners being weighed before leaving to travel to the races. Andrew takes Nick into the Colour Room where one of his Team of sixty horsemen and horsewomen are preparing to travel some runners for an away day; packing all the things the horses will be needing for the journey and whilst on the racetrack. A busy work environment, a lot going on.
