Nicholas Godfrey brings news as  Wesley Ward's horses fly in to Newmarket for Royal Ascot. Welcomed by  Clive Brittain who is putting all up at his Carlburg Stables at Home in Newmarket..

CH4's  Nick Luck took us to France yesterday afternoon to meet up with Criquette Head - Maarek at her home in Chantilly where she train's her horses and from where she is preparing Treve to compete on Wednesday at Royal Ascot for the Prince of Wales's Stakes partnered by Frankie Dettori.

Prince of Wales's Stakes (British Champions Series) (Group 1) Cl1 1m2f

Nick explains: “Criquette is always terrifically accessible and genuinely loves talking to people about her horse. What makes Treve particularly special for her is that she was bred by her family at their stud in Normandy and she goes back there twice a week, making a five-hour round trip, to see all the stud staff.

Nick asks Criquette about the draw on the 10-furlong track because if you get drawn wide it can be a disadvantage, but she said there won’t be any excuses  people won’t be able to say the ground is too quick or that she was drawn poorly.

Looking  significantly stronger and chunkier than she did last year. Criquette explains  " She’s tough, not easy to be around, she’ll let you know who’s boss in the box. She is a very intelligent filly. She is much wiser now; she’s quite cute in her work and doesn’t do an awful lot. She still shows all the same level of ability but doesn’t over exert herself when she gets to the front, so I think you can realistically expect that she’ll be delivered pretty late and with that in mind Ascot should suit. "

Whilst in Chantilly Nick also catches up with Corine Barbe-Barbe at home with her remarkable Cirrus des Aigles who is having a six week break after pulling up slightly lame after winning the Group 1 Investec Coronation Cup at Epsom on Saturday June 7.
