Richard thrilled with “Wiggy's Sprint win at Newbury, saying a Group 1 winner in waiting.
“TIGGY WIGGY fulfilled all our expectations-and more-when running away with
the Weatherbys Super Sprint at Newbury last Saturday’ She was simply brilliant
and I definitely believe if she’d produced that performance at Ascot she’d have
won the Queen Mary.
"In fact, I have never travelled so easily in front in such a big race with so many runners. She jumped out, controlled the contest and had 23 rivals off the bridle at the two-furlong pole
“That was impressive enough in its own right, but the fact that she picked
up again off that pace and duly quickened speaks volumes for her natural ability.
“She has all the makings of a Group 1 winner, but we’ll resist the
temptation to let her take on her elders until the Prix de L’Abbaye at
Longchamp in October. The Lowther and Cheveley Park will be next on her
itinerary
“The Nunthorpe was spoken of as a possible target after Newbury, but we
don’t want to take the chance of knocking the stuffing out of her for an Autumn
campaign. If she’s going to take on the big boys then it makes sense to do so
in Paris on the likely soft ground. “
RICHARDS GLORIOUS GOODWOOD PREVIEW
FIVE DAY MEETING
Richard gives us an interesting preview of Team (Richard) Hannon’s Goodwood
challengers all this week, starts tomorrow. Live on CH4 every afternoon.
GLORIOUS GOODWOOD and Royal Ascot are my two favourite meetings of the
year. While Goodwood cannot match the overall quality of Royal Ascot, there is
a great
All- round mix of Group races, maidens and handicaps over the five days. I
can’t wait to get down there.
“I have been the top jockey at the meeting for the last four years and
would love to make it five. One year I managed to ride nine winners, only for
Richard Hannon [snr] to tell me it should have been ten! "
