RACING REVIEW ASCOT SATURDAY

Two year old filly Osaila just starting out in her career will have learned a lot in this race with Frankie in the saddle. Winning by 2 lengths from Pastoral Girl..

1-11
WIN: Taghrooda 3 8-6 b f. Sea The Stars – Ezima. partner Paul Hanagan 7-2.
Team
(John) Gosden for Hamdan Al Maktoum 2nd Telescope 4 9-7. 5-2f. 3rd.
Mukhadram 5 9-7. 12-1. Handler presenter Veronika Strouhalava. Distance 3l. 8 ran.
Partner Paul Hanagan said: “To put a very good filly like
this in at the deep end is great for the whole of racing. Once I had got
upsides Ryan [Moore, on Telescope] I was always confident she’d knuckle down. I’m
proud of her. “
John Gosden said: “It was a superb performance. I was
delighted with the ride, which was lovely and patient. They went hard at it.
The ground made it a little testing. She has developed very strongly since the
Oaks and has a neck on her like a colt. She showed her true worth. They were
tough nuts to crack up front. They were in the right position to kick off the
bend, but it was lovely to see her outclass them. It would make a lot of sense to go for the Arc,
but it is entirely up to Sheikh Hamdan. She’s an improving filly and gets a
decent weight allowance. “
Gosden said: "With her owner Hamdan Al Maktoum intent on retiring her
for breeding purposes at the end of the year, the Qatar Prix de L’Arc de
Triomphe may be her final target. “
Racing Manager Angus Gold said: “We’ve had a few quiet
years, but the same amount of work and effort goes into the bad years as the
good. I’m thrilled for Sheikh Hamdan, who puts so much into it. Something like
this with a homebred will be immensely satisfying. “
Jon Lees reports
“TAGHROODA turned the clock back almost 40 years to a
vintage era when fillies ruled over the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes
in recording a brilliant victory in Britain’s richest all-age, middle-distance
race. Gosden and Al Maktoum took full advantage of a 15lb weight- for- age-and –sex
concession from runner- up colt Telescope to claim a prize captured by a reining
Oaks winner only once in the history of a contest inaugurated in 1951.”
