WILLIE MULLINS (IRE) CHAMPION JUMPS TRAINER:
MOMENT OF THE WEEK:
WM: ““We had a great day at Leopardstown last weekend, winning three Grade 1s
and I’d say having the first three in the GAIN Spring Juvenile Hurdle was probably the highlight.
Footpad stepped up to the mark, and with Allbiak Des Places and Let’s Dance
doing well behind him, it looks as if we’ll have a good team heading to the
Triumph."
WM: “DOWNER OF THE WEEK:
“Having to rule Killultagh Vic out of Cheltenham, and probably the rest
of the season, because of a suspensory injury was a blow."
JMC: WM: ONE TO WATCH:
"Coquin Mans, a four-year –old by Fragrant Mix, won an AQPS race over 1m4f
in France in March and is a nice type who will be starting off over hurdles
soon."

“Here are the green shoots, but will they grow?”
ON LOCATION
“Steve Dennis visits
Wolverhampton to canvass opinion on the health of grassroots racing in the wake
of encouraging industry statistics.
“It’s a bitter day at
Wolverhampton , the coat-tails of Storm Imogen
flaying the racecourse, sending the windsock in the infield into a state
of horizontal tumescence , blowing empty bucket around the winners enclosure.
This is the grassroots of the sport, unglamorous, functional, vital. No roots,
no shoots. Let’s see what is going on in the garden.
“There are seven races on the
card, four of them meeting the ‘eight or more runners’ criterion , two just
missing out with seven, one with just four runners but-as is so often thee way –
they’re the best four horses on the grounds. Prize-money is surprisingly good
in places-two raced with £19,000 guaranteed, a Class 3 with £11,500 in the pot,
a £5,000 maiden and three Class 6 events with £4,000 up for grabs. “
“It’s a typical all-weather
meeting, the sort of thing that rumbles continuously along in the background
while vastly more interesting things happen elsewhere. Wolverhampton just an
ordinary little track, not pretentious at all, nice and compact-they do well
here, says racegoer David Evans. “This sort of racing has its place. There’s
too much hysteria about Cheltenham and the like anyway."
JMC: “The Rules of all Sport are collated from the top of each sport, not from the bottom. In global horseracing the true Rules of Global Horseracing do not exist.

JMC: You need your wits about you, to mind what you are at, amongst a field of over 20 runners as this was the case here. It takes accurate concentration to interact safely with your own horse, whilst racing at speed amongst many other horses all around you, it takes a smart accurate rider to manouver throughout a feature race such as this one. The last two hurdles or fences a rider needs to be accurately aware that the horse may have tired considerably by this point in a race, especially in heavy ground, with the rider needing to be extra sensitive with their horse, to not ask and expect too much of a horse coming off a fast pace through tiring, those closing stages of every race depend on each and every riders awareness of this one fact, that can make all the difference between winning or loosing a race, and in doing so preventing what could be that last disastrous fall. To remain accurately in tune with your horse when he or she is tiring, the patient art of knowing when and how to ask a tiring horse to respond, a fine art that few ever achieve. One advantage point that the female of the species is more likely to achieve.
Sam Twiston-Davies has his first ride for Willie Mullins this afternoon in this race he partners Business Sivola, who he said pulls hard. He came to grief at the forth hurdle.

JMC: Killultagh Vic suffering a nasty injury his suspensory ligament that will take time to heal. People don't realise how easily these racehorses can get badly injured when competing at racecourses in races, sometimes much worse, than jockeys.
