Kingston Hill partner Andrea Atzeni
surge to Racing Post Trophy Win

KINGSTON HILL lives up to the faith that TEAM VARIAN  hold in him.

If you take a closer look at the Life and Times of Roger Varian you will find an historic thread weaving it's way back through an historic highly significant Equus path.
 ROGER VARIAN  through  MICHAEL JARVIS
through GORDON SMYTH,  through  TOWSER GOSDEN and back again to the present day to John Gosden,  Towser's son.

John Montague "Towser" Gosden (1904–1967) was a British racehorse trainer based near Lewes, East Sussex. He married Peggy Gosden (née Gearing), with whom he had two children, John and Sally. He is the father of British racehorse trainer John Gosden.

"Accumulate wealth with trading hotshot Hughes

 a trading commodity.

"TODAY'S Racing Post Trophy may reveal next year's Derby winner, another High Chaparral or Motivator, Authorized or Camelot, but it will not yield another Arkle

"There are several reasons for this, including the fact Racing Post Trophy winners rarely contest the Cheltenham Gold Cup or Leopardstown Chase  (well never, really), and that there will never be another Arkle.

"Yet, this week, their paths crossed. This week of the Racing Post Trophy has also been the week of the Arkle Pilgrimage, inspired by Sir Peter  O'Sullevan Charitable Trust. Some people go on pilgrimages to the Holy Land; others to Mecca or Santiago de Compostela, but on Monday, led by Sean Magee, author of the splendid Arkle; The Life and Legacy of Himself, a group of pilgrims set off to Ireland, and all things Arkle.

"It was a tremendous visit and I am looking forward - and you can too - to Magee's account of the pilgrimage, which will appear in the Racing Post tomorrow week. Unlike pilgrimages to Mecca (1,426 killed in a stampede in 1990) or to the Ratangarth temple (91 killed this month), hardly anyone was killed at all.

I am wondering myself if the Church Of England has lost its way. Too much punishment,  threatening punishment  do this or you will go to hell. Sort of stuff. Like the political and horseracing government, to include British Law.  Dark age stuff to frighten people to include the horse.

Condemning everything and every one to include the horses. St Bernard Abbott of Clairvaux  1091 - 1153 concentrated on love he wrote Eighty Six Sermons on the Song of Songs (Solomon).

"With Nick O'Toole (thank you)  to guide us, we saw all sorts of Arkle things, including the stable where he was born (thank you to Peter Reynolds at Ballymacoll Stud),  the fields where he grew up (thank you to the amazing Alison Baker, aged 94, and her family), the box where he lived when in training (thank you, Jim Dreaper, son of Arkle's trainer Tom, and family), Arkle's grave, and even his skeleton (thank you, Sally Carroll and colleagues at the Irish National Stud)

"The skeleton reminds me of a Spike Milligan cartoon, in which a man peers out from a coffin and says, "I demand a second opinion . In Arkle's case, I think it's too late for that.

"There were too many evocative places to mention them all and too many wonderfully hospitable people to thank, but thank you Paddy Woods, Arkle'swork-rider and one- time jockey, and Willie Robinson, Mill House's partner, and Johnny Lumley, Arkle's  groom. Splending time with them was a remarkable experience.

"A special thank-you to TP Burns, who provided one of the highlights of the tour, and to James, his solicitous son. Burns, now 89, was the only jockey to have won a Flat race on Arkle, because it was the only Flat race (bumpers excepted) Arkle contested. There were some lovely black and white photographs on  the walls, and a scrapbook  on the table. Fittingly, Arkle's Flat success was at Navan, where we ended up on Wednesday. Arkle wasn't there, but some enormous beef rolls were, and I suggest you have one next time you go.

Perhaps if globally we all attempted to concentrate on developing peace, not war.  Starting with setting out the true Equus rules of global horseracing to include the horses, this world wouldn't be in the mess it is in now. The Equus  friendship of our own Queen Elizabeth and the American Horseman Monty Roberts between them they have been working on this Equus perspective since the early 1980's. So there is absolutely no reason why the British political and horseracing governments should refuse to move forward to attend to,  and change their poor leadership direction, and dark age punishment policies, the British people deserve better.  Our Queen and Monty Roberts have achieved massive strides in the right direction within Equus over the last 40 plus years worldwide.

"Right, enough of that, because I think I've worked out how to make a fortune. Richard Hughes doesn't know it yet, but the plan is for our champion jockey to follow in the pioneering footsteps of Arian Foster and become a trading commodity.

"FOSTER or, as he is now known, Adrian Foster Convertible Trading Stock, is the Houston Texans' star running back. The Texans pay Foster more than $5 million a year, but Fantex Inc are proposing to pay him a one-off $10m for a 20 per cent stake in his future earnings from all sources. They plan to raise the money by offering 1,055,000 shares at $10 each.

"If you watched the Texans play the Kansas Chiefs last Sunday, you'll have seen Foster leave the field with a hamstring injury. If the stock was already trading, its value would have fallen. He's expected to be back next weekend, so his stock would have recovered.

"I don't know how much Hughes earns, but I think he could be usefully converted into Richard Hughes Convertible Trading Stock and sold off in £10 portions.

"Somewhere along the line, I'd like to think there'd be £1m for me, preferably before Hughes does something silly - rides in India, for instance - and picks um an enormous suspension,

"Hughes is riding Chief Barker in today's big race. Victory would give a healthy boost to his stock. Chief Barker boosts the engaging form figures of 111. When I first followed horseracing, I assumed that 111 was better than 000, and that 0432 was a particularly promising combination. Unfortunately it isn't quite as simple as that.

"Still, one can dream, in which case the finishing order, as per the above system, will be Chief Barker first, with Kingston Hill and Pinzolo dead-heating for second, and Century fourth.

"If anyone pays any attention to what I write (I don't suppose they do), they will have backed Upswing when he won, easily, at Carlisle on Thusday.  I told you, twice (Racing Post February 23 and March 23, 2013). You just can't help some people. I expect you're one of them. I know I am. "

STABLE JOCKEY - TRAINER - RELATIONSHIP
"I wouldn't tell Richard Hannon Snr what to do. "
"I WAS enjoying Julian Muscat's article in Wednesday's Racing Post, until I got to the bit  where he wrote that I encouraged Richard to race his better two-year-olds more sparingly" . I nearly fell off my chair in mid-sentence. I would just like to stress that Richard trains them and I ride them.

"When a horse is visually impressive in victory I might suggest it is actually weak, but that is the only time I get involved. Richard Hannon trained plenty of good horses before I came along" .

"HUGHESIE'S HOTTIE
"NIGHT OF THUNDER (2yo) might lack experience, but he impressed me enormously at Goodwood.  He will go on the ground, which is a big plus, and should take all the beating in the Listed race (2.05) Doncaster 6f. Yes, yes, yes a magic moment for. NIGHT OF THUNDER Won 6-4f  partner HIMSELF by 3 lengths from AEOLUS partner GRAHAM GIBBONS  beaten 3 lengths.100-30.

Richard Hughes confident to break his Classic duck in 2013

Richard Hughes, despite a hugely-successful career, has never won an English Classic and the champion jockey is more intent on breaking that duck in 2013 than retaining his crown
