Frankie Dettori and Johnny Gosden join up with Golden Horn in Ireland this afternoon
5.45 for the Group 1 Qipco Irish Champion Stakes over 1m 2f. The unsettled weather, and considerable overnight rain changing the going, making things far from straight forward for the trainers. May cause non-runners.in particular Aiden O'Brien's Gleneagles. We will have to wait and see. http://www.racingpost.com/news/live.sd
Fifth Race 5.45 Golden Horn (GB) 3 9-0 partner Frankie Dettori Team (Johnny) Gosden for Anthony Oppenheimer.
Frankie said:“Pat [Smullen, on Free Eagle] came to me then I gave him a couple of cracks and I got the measure of him and I thought, right, come on, let’s go home. All of a sudden, he just took a right turn. He must have seen something.”
Gosden said: “You don’t notice it on the screen, but he’s run across the shadow of the grandstand and then straightened up. A photographer who was down there has pointed out to me what happened."

MY FAVOURITE HORSE
Racing Post
Philip Mitchell on Running Stag
“We got within hundredth of a second of Secretariat’s record”
“HE TOOK me to places you only read about in National
Geographic - we went to America lots of times, Dubai and Hong Kong – and he was
owned by the most lovely man in Richard Cohen.
“All Richard wanted was fun out of racing and when we bought Running Stag privately
from Maurice Ziber, I said “This horse
will give you fun alright - he could
take us places and he will pay his way” .
“I always had a passion for American racing and I’d already
been there a few times with horses like Sylvan Express, My Pal Popeye and Keen
Edge, so I knew what sort of a horse you needed. Saratoga stands out for me
with Running Stag because he’s still the
only British-trained winner there but probably the highlight was really the
Brooklyn Handicap, when he got to within hundredths of a second of Secretariat’s track record. He won in a
hack canter too- I still can’t believe how easily he won.
“He should have won
the Mass ‘ Cap twice but the first time I told Shane Sellers not to take the
stick out of his left hand because he could lug a bit, but, he pulled the stick
through five strides from the wire and Stag changed his legs and got beat a
nose.”
