Jockey Brian Toomey in intensive care after Perth fall
By
Frank Keogh BBC Sport
Jockey Brian Toomey is in a 'stable condition' in hospital after
suffering a life-threatening head injury in a fall at Perth racecourse.
The 24-year-old Irish rider was on Solway
Dandy when the horse fell three flights from home on Thursday.
His mother and sister are both with him
at Ninewells Hospital
in Dundee , where he is in intensive care.
Toomey's girlfriend Amy Ryan, last
season's champion apprentice rider, has also visited him. An update on the jockey's condition is not expected before Sunday

CH4 Nick Luck "Dettori polarises opinion no matter how
long Frankie Dettori's losing streak extended, he was this week's biggest
winner. By far. News that he had picked up the retainer to ride horses owned by
Sheikh Joaan Al Thani was just the spring board needed to relaunch his career
in meaningful fashion.
"It is all very well to stress his need to
spend time at the coal face and to graft away on inferior animals in order to
chisel his way back to where he used to be.
"But Dettori is not - and never has been - a
chiseller. He is at his best when the stakes are highest, and - in turn-- when
his natural outward confidence is communication to the horses he rides."
JMC Frankie Dettori's status achievements as a world
class (Group 1) bloodhorse literate horseman have not wavered, no matter what
turbulence has been stirred up around him, no matter how he has been taken for
granted, blamed by bloodhorse illiterate abuse, of which there is far, far too
much. Frankie's achievements shine through the lot. His talent has taken him to
extraordinary places and he has faced extraordinary experiences along his own pioneering
career path within world horseracing. There is only
so much turbulence a person can take, any person, before that person hits turbulence overload.

WORLD YOUTH JOIN- UP DAYS - RIO DE JANEIRO , BRAZIL 2013
Tuesday July 23rd to Sacred Sunday
July 28th
Young
people from all over Latin America and around the world will gather to meet up
with Pope Francis in Rio de Janeiro ,
toward the end of this month.
Pope Francis,
Holy Father to meet up with the young ones in this great worldwide pilgrimage
of faith, this loving gesture of hope in the future of the Church and the love
of the young, to include the horses. A message from the past, for Pope Francis
in case his own career, life and times has not acquainted him with the Animal
Kingdom very much. Using here the career, life and times of one specific
racehorse Affirmed a great American racehorse, and the man who trained him Lazaro Sosa Barrera (May 8, 1924 – April
25, 1991) was a Cuban-born
American Hall of Fame thoroughbred

trainer.[1]
EPITAPH
Steve Cauthen's memories of the American
Racehorse Affirmed
On
Monday January 15th 2001 in the Racing Post we read of US Triple Crown winner
Affirmed's death. Dan Farley's tribute with not a single word about or from the
Lad who nurtured and cared for Affirmed daily, no photograph nothing only just
a glimpse of a grey shirt. Dan said "Steve Cauthen mourns the death of
Affirmed as follows: "The loss of a
great friend, of somebody who made a big impact on my life and career something
I respected every time I was around him. He was probably the most intelligent
horse I was ever around. He has a lot of common sense, he loved to run and
battle, and he was an easy horse to ride. I just appreciated his company - and
I think everyone else around him did. The horse had such class and presence. I
could always trust him to give me his best. I always knew he would run a big
race. He was very, very special and everyone he touched was awed by him. He humbled a lot of people.
He was such a gentleman, a strong horse - just very dignified. He knew he was
the real deal."

"The memory and the spirit of Laz Barrera hover over
the 117th Kenucky Derby this week. Not just because he won it twice, with Bold
Forbes in 1976 and Affirmed in 1978, but because he won it twice with the
traits that set him apart: brilliance with horses, warmth with people."
Lazaro Sosa Barrera (May 8, 1924 – April 25, 1991) was a Cuban-born American Hall of Fame thoroughbred racehorse trainer.[1]
How do British
Governments, both Political and Horseracing consider the rights and needs of
the young ones preparing to leave school, find a career and move on and out into
the harsh reality of the real world? Both very backward in coming forward. Out of touch, out of tune is the sad reality. Nothing joins up, nothing works.
