“In the US and Australia there have been tragic bulletins in recent
weeks, detailing the deaths of young riders
cut off long before their prime. On these shores we’ve been spared such
terrible headlines, but there are those who will tell you it was only by a
hair’s breadth that we escaped.
Richard Kingscote is living, breathing proof of the good fortune that
smiled upon the sport. Still nursing horrific injuries sustained in a
five-horse pile- up at Wolverhampton this month, he may not look like a lucky
man, but he knows his fate could have been far worse – to a terminal degree.

“He’s coming along nicely and we are once again looking at the Hennessy . I would like to get a run into him beforehand because he’s such a stuffy individual. Like Hunt Ball, he’s a novice over hurdles and that could be his route to the Hennessy. After he won the Topham the season before last we really thought the Grand National should be his objective. Barry did everything to try to persuade us to avoid the Hennessy and keep his mark for the National. rightly or wrongly, we settled for the Hennessy and he won it, which obviously took him to the top of the National weights. By this time we were having problems with his wind – which has been rectified over the summer- and also the softish ground at Aintree. All Grand Nationals from now on are likely to have the word soft somewhere in the going description for good reason, but for a horse like Triolo, who must have it good, it’s probably unwise to wait for the National with him. He’ll not be the easiest to place from now on, but we hope for more good day’s. “ ENTRIES PREVIEW 2014
