OPENING
SHOW Paul Eacott on a day that offers truly international action
"It
is often said the world is becoming a smaller place. If there is one trainer making
it appear so in the case of horseracing it is Mike de Kock.
"Unique
in having a proper base on three different continents, the eight- time champion
trainer in his native South Africa has regularly provided the only real
competition to the Godolphin juggernaut at the Dubai Carnival, while this year -more
so than previously-he has a firm foothold in Britain.
"Shea
Shea is quickly becoming a regular in Britain 's sprints, while David Livingstone gave
DeKock a high -profile victory in last weekend's Group 3 Rose of Lancaster Stakes.
"Today,
however he unleashes what could be his team housed in Newmarket when his Soft Falling Rain makes
his European debut in the Group 2 Betfred Hungerford Stakes at Newbury.
"Unbeaten
in seven starts, a run that stretches from a Turffontein maiden in January 2012 through to the Godolphin Mile at Meydan
on World Cup night this year, Soft Falling Rain headed to Britain with Royal
Ascot on his agenda.

GLOBAL RULES OF HORSERACING WHERE ARE THEY?
Just how badly are the global regulators of horseracing
letting top true professional (Group I) jockeys down?
To say nothing about the young ones just starting out
in their careers.
Worst of all are Britain and India who's regulation parties totally ignore the rights and needs of the racehorses and those who ride them and care for them every day.
The British
Horseracing Authority (BHA) and The Royal Indian Western Turf Club (RIWTC)
surely have animal welfare
responsibilities, as do all global racecourses.
Both these
regulators together with all global racecourses have responsibility for animal's rights and
needs, to include the people who work with the horses every day. If same commit an offence, act, or fail to act, causing an animal to
suffer unnecessarily. If persons employed within the BHA, the RIWTC and the
global racecourses do not provide for an animal’s welfare needs, and rights all
can be banned from practice fined and/or sent to prison.
The Animal
Welfare Act 2006 (which applies in England
and Wales ), the Animal
Health and Welfare (Scotland )
Act 2006 and the Welfare of Animals (Northern Ireland ) Act 2011 contain
provisions to safeguard the welfare of animals, to include racehorses in
training or out of training. This means that the BHA and British racecourses if
failing in their duties in this regard can be fined, or sent to prison.
The BHA have
over the last 5 decades totally ignored the rights and needs of racehorses both
in or out of training, to include all those who work with the racehorses every
day.

What can Equine Vets tell us about how this filly ICE AGE would be feeling, during the period of bursting a blood vessel whilst competing, galloping fast in an attempt to win a race? Will she have suffered a severe head ache perhaps? Like we would?
If a person sufferes a brain stem haemorrhage they get a dreadful head ache before hand, followed up when the blood vessel actually bursts, loosing consciousness, usually followed by death. But I suppose it depends which blood vessel it is. John Drew now retired from Veterinary Practice would know more about this. As would trainer Nicky Henderson.

Harris after big show from his Great St Wilfrid duo
By Peter Scargill
